CAN ANYBODY HELP ME?
i have a mac g3 450 mhz,384 MB ram, Mac os 8.6,ati rage 128.
PUlsar 2( with latest update or 2.04 a i've tried both).
the problem is that when i use cubase with pulsar it freezes
each 5 minutes. Ram is enough for vst and pulsar, vst cpu performance rise at the half of it,the hard disk performance is very low(thanks to the ram allocated to each audio channel)i use max16/18 audio channels a few plug ins(again just untill cpu rise to the half)
To understand if the problem was with pulsar or cubase i tried to run cubase alone using sound manager :i pushed the soft to the max tons of plug ins ,audio channnels, tweeking :CPU at MAXIMUM ,AUDIO HIC COPPING ,VIDEO incredibly slow but :
IT NEVER FREEZED!!!!!IT NEVER FREEZED!!!!!
SO the problem is with pulsar and honestly my projects are modest too
they use max 100 mb ram INCLUDING ram used by MAC OS.
WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO BE ABLE TO WORK MAKE MUSIC AND EARN MONEY?
just to tell every body ,the guy who represent PULSAR here in BELGIUM
says:" YOU KNOW THAT WITH LOGIC AUDIO IT WORKS PERFECTLY", Well i don't give a FUCK i like cubase not logic !!!
finally i've tried everything :reinstall everything 1000 times
throw CUBASE PREFERNCES ,change PCI slots...... but nothing changes!!
IF SOMEBODY HAS THE MAGIC SOLUTION IT WILL PREVENT MY SUICIDE or
an HOMICIDE AT CREAMWARE.
thank you in advance
regards
cisco

I don't know much about Macs, but still I noticed a few things that come to mind:
1. Is your ATI card a "PCI" card? If so, then it could very well be a problem stealing PCI resources from Pulsar.
2. I noticed you're running an older Mac OS. I'm not sure 8.6 works, do you have 9.1 to try? Before messing with anything, you might want to make a Disk Image of your hard disk, so you can return to your previous setup quickly.
3. Is your G3 a "G3 upgrade card" or a REAL G3? G3 upgrade card machines WON'T WORK from everything I've read.
4. Allocate at least 80 megs to Pulsar, if not 128 or 192megs. Honestly 384 is a tad on the low side for Pulsar+Cubase on a Macintosh.
5. Make sure you have no resource conflicts with the Pulsar card.
Now some questions, are you running any reverbs or samplers in your Pulsar projects? How many, what kind, how large are the samples, etc.
If you're using ASIO, how many channels of audio can you run STABLE?
Try striping down your projects to the bare essentials to see what the issue is, perhaps it's just your hard disk choking to keep up, or your processor.

Try and reinstall OMS. I had some problem with it. Remove all opcode and OMS stuff and reinstall it. That solved the problem for me. There were kind of similar.

Jupiter8's suggestion of reinstalling OMS is a good one. I had problems with Mac OS 9.1... not everyone does... I'm also on a G3/500 with 224mb RAM and I have no trouble now running Pulsar II and Cubase 4.1 together after reverting back to Mac OS 9.04 .... it took me over a month to get my system working properly... lost a lot of hair.
Every Mac is different, but I suggest you get rid of all those 3rd party extensions you thought you couldn't live without and keep your system as lean as possible.
I put a post - "Trouble Shooting Mac" - in the Tips and Tricks forum here, outlining my findings... it might help you.

Just another quick thought
I don't exactly remember why this happened, but at one time I ended up with two Pulsar driver extensions in my system folder. The older one is called Pulsar Driver and the newer one is called CreamWare Audio Driver .
I tried just deleting the older driver, but the damage had already been done since Pulsar installer also looks for your OMS Folder inside your system folder and installs OMS drivers...... BLAHHHH.... it's best to just delete all the Opcode and Pulsar stuff and start again.

hi,i've got a g3/350mhz 384ram under 8.6 with a vst5(i had the cubaz 4:it works)
Now it works well. For the ram i put 50mo for pulsar and 175mo for cubase the rest for os8.6.It works well(crashing sometimes but...)
For the freeze does it mean that you have to restart your computer?
Maybe a stupid proposition but:
have you click the function "play midi in background"?

peace

hello every body thank you for helping me
i'll try all your solutions but honestly it'll be to good that they work.
i have initialised the mac at least 20 times
so in a way i've also reinstalled oms(like jupiter suggests) but nothing changed.
maybe i have to follow a precise sequence when reinstalling , i.e. :1)cubase 2)pulsar 3)oms etc..
i'll try again, thank you

Somebody said that i have to raise pulsar memory but i thought that the app was getting ram from mac os ,infact let say that whan you start the computer mac os uses 40 mo
then when i launch pulsar mac os raises to
100 mo
is that right?
thanks

i had problems with my account i'm not cisco anymore... i'm LORE

Lore, I thought the same about Pulsar getting memory from the OS...
One other thing that may be worth trying....software related... revert back to Cubase 4.1.... I couldn't get 4.1r2 to work at all, even before I got my Pulsar system.
AND.....While talking about memory.... it might be your RAM chips that are giving you hassles.... since all the reinstalling doesn't seem to have worked... look for a hardware cause (?)
Hope it works out for you

Just a thought on the "Pulsar gets it memory from the OS Right".
My guess is that this is NOT the case rather that the system alloocates more memory (buffers and such) for the transfering of sound from Logic (or Cubase) to Pulsar and vice versa.

hi,check this if it can help you,it works on a g3blue384mo under os8.6 with cubase.
when you finish to install you should have this:
For pulsar 1 file in:
-system/oms folder/pulsar oms driver
-system/opening at start/pulsar start up
-pulsar/app/bin/pulsar start up
-system/extensions/pulsardriver
-Pulsar/driver/pulsar driver
For cubase vst5(i think same for cub4)
-system/cubase preferences/cubase 3 pref(doc)
For Asio drivers.
-Pulsar/driver/asio pulsar
-Cubase5/asio driver/asio pulsar
Ram-cubase 175mo pulsar 50291mo
i don't know why i put 291

but it works
see ya
