Setup as follows:
Pulsar II (Software: 2.04a)
Cubase VST 5.0
ASIO latency set as high as possible (25ms @ 44.1k, IIRC)
ASIO source -> Dynamixer -> Pulsar Analog Out

I just got Cubase having finally run out of steam on N-Tracks, which I had
been using. It looks amazing but I'm having nasty problems with ASIO audio
;-(

All I'm trying to do is play the Quickstart Demo Song in Cubase having set
it up as per the manual.
Occasionally during play and often when I hit the stop button on the
transport bar, I loose ASIO audio completely. No error messages, but
sometimes the levels in the dynamixer stay fixed right up around 0dB.

The only way I can sort it out is to close down Cubase, then the Pulsar app
and then load them up again. It looks like this doesn't work sometimes
either so I have to restart the machine It's just not feasible to be
doing that every 5 minutes

Oh yeah, and even restarting the machine won't solve the problem now. I really can't re-install Cubase every 5 minutes.

Has anyone experienced this? does anyone know what I've forgotten to do?

is it a non-cracked/authentic version of cubase?

As for RAM, I dunno, is 512Mb enough for the demo song?

I got further myself by checking the 'Play in background' option, once I found it, the Pulsar manual is out of date on this. What does this do?

I also whacked the buffers up miles (288kb per channel or something) which seems ot have helped some.

I also found the Performance monitor is cubase It seems that this happens when the CPU goes above about 40% usage.

That seems odd, but maybe Cubase is picking up the fact that I've got a Dual PIII-550 machine? Of course, I can only use one of 'em thanks to Creamware's tardiness in getting Win2K drivers out, so if this is the case, I'd expect to be 'bottoming out' at around 50%.

Does any of this make sense?

PPS: The Karlette Aux Effect seems a sure fire way to cause this to happen. Is it broken or just extremely processor hungry?

"Play in background" means that cubase will play the wav files while u work on something else. ie: u want to change settings on a pulsar synth, but everytime u switch to pulsar, VST would stop sounding.
Having the "Play in background" option check solves this problem.

Just to stress this for all the people who bitch about Creamware and the Pulsar, I consider this problem to have been totally within Cubase and nothing to do with the Pulsar whatsoever...
