PCI Express to PCI Expansion Box - PC & Macintosh

Post by erminardi »

Link from UAD official forum.
Some users are trying this stuff and sharing the experience.
Seems to be interesting, maybe for UAD or other PCI cards duty, to leave free the precious PCI slots for Scope (that requires more PCI bandwith and no IRQ sharing)

This alternative is a lot cheaper than Magma, unfortunately this brand don't features PCMCIA interface for laptops.
4PC + Scope 5.0 + no more Xite + 2xScope Pro + 6xPulsarII + 2xLunaII + SDK + a lot of devices (Flexor III & Solaris 4.1 etc.) + Plugiator.

that looks pretty neat. Too bad they made the box so small.. I dont think we could fit a full sized scope card in there..
Of course it doesnt look like it would be too tough to modify the thing or just pull it's guts out and stick them in a larger case.

Yeah, if you wanted to put Scope cards in there you'd have to cut a hole in the back, but as erminardi says you probably want your Scope cards in their own slots.

looks interesting.

If this plate works the case should not be the biggest problem.

The PCI-e slot features a very high speed rate, so a bandwith of all 4 PCI board flowed in one PCI-e should not be a problem as "PCI to PCI" expansion chassis.
The little MB of this box is easy twaekable, so you should not to be MacGyver to transfer it on a (i.e.) old Midi Tower.

I`m sure the ranges between the screws may be non-conform to fit the holes in a tower case....

Just use plastic supports with thermofusibile glue.
I use thsi technique since 1993 for any experimental tweaking inside my computer cases (fan placement, board placement, component placement, etc.) without problems. This glue is rock solid (keep attention to different kind of thermo glue in the market, I use the most hard)

Another link about it:
http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-2087- ... ution.html
Some devices with interface PCI can demonstrate incompatibility with the considered case at drivers level
:(

And the link of the producer (Japan):

should be quite easy to create your own perspex box to enclose the cards.

yes, just few square & round holes and 4 screws.
A nice idea is using Plexiglass, so you can see your beloved Scope (or what else) every day ;)

I'm not sure if they still do it but I believe Magma used to sell OEM kits, which were just the boards with adapter card+cable... you could build it into any case you wanted.
