I know there are some Fostex Mixer/Multitracker users here, and wondered how they've set up, integrating computer(s), software and cards.
I have a VM200 and VM88 mixer(s) and a VR800 MultiTracker. I've got a Pulsar I, LunaII, and Oasys, in my PIII using "Me"OS..and, connected by audio cable, STDM and midi, an AMD t-BIRD with Biostar board, 761 chip and 512DDR, running
win2000, utilizing SonarXL/SoundForgeV with a SB5.1 audio card. My Synths "midi"into an old Kawaii Midi Patch Bay and then into MidiSport USB 2X2 which feeds midi into Oasys/Pulsar/Luna, then into other computer and the SB 5.1!
ADAT outs from my two mixers to Pulsar's two ADATS.

Audio outs from mixers combined into Oasys' Stereo Imput and then going out its output into the SB Card. Pulsar's SPDIF going into the SB Card. ADAT outs for recording into VR800 in separate passes.
Mixing done on hardware and also in Pulsar/Luna Oasys. Maybe I should get a job at WalMart vs. figuring this thing out! Is this Rube Goldberg, or what??

That Fostex stuff was on closeout..
BTW I put a 30 Gig HD (Western Digital) into the MultiTracker and it formatted OK...seems it will take ADAC simultaneous 8 track recording for about 8 hours. Not bad...if I can get some data into it!!
I've got a Triton, CS6X, XV5080 and M1plus going into the VM200..and a PA-80, Karma, G-1000,and EPS16plus going into the VM88. I've got ModII in the Pulsar. Connecting real wires and virtual wires are my job. What's yours?

sorry, that´s kinda off topic, but how would you judge the converters of the lil´ fostex mixer? compared to the onboard converters of pulsar?

i have a vm200, pulsar I, and luna II. i connected the adat 1 i/o of the pulsar to the vm200. i set the vm200 as master and the pulsar as slave on adat 1 at 44.1. you could also reverse this dominance/submission relationship. i use the adat source/dest modules in pulsar - i monitor thru the stereo bus out of the vm200. this works great, no problems.

you did not ask a specific question, so it is unclear what your problem is! contact me if you need some help!

I'm using pretty much the same setup as algorythm. I've got the pulsar set to master and vm200 as slave. The only problem with that is that the vm200 totally wigs out in the absence of the master clock, and it doesn't store the clock settings in its mixer presets. So everytime I want to use the vm200 without pulsar, i have to manually change the clock... I should try making the vm200 master and see how it works (i have several other optical devices all working happily with pulsar as master, which is why i didn't change it yet.)

Anyway, I have one vm200 scene i use when the pulsar is on, and another scene i use when pulsar is off. In the pulsar-off scene, my guitar (vg-8) and microwave xt are enabled on the stereo buss so i can hear them. In the pulsar-on scene, I have the guitar and microwave XT routed out the adat optical buss (which enter the pulsar mixer world), and disabled on the stereo buss. And then the pulsar mixer's main outs are wired out the adat pipe back to the vm200, and routed onto the stereo buss.

Thanks for your comments!
Mr. A, how does the LunaII "fit into your mix" (pardon the pun)? I have the Pulsar in slot 3 and the Luna in slot 4...don't know if this is the problem..but..when I install Pulsar first...it "reigns" and the Luna won't open up..only a message..hardware not installed or driver prob...when I install Luna first, Pusar comes up with same message..perhaps the Luna on 1 and the Pulsar on 5?.. considering this is an ol' PIII 550 Pavilion. The STDM is plugged into both, but when my desktop comes up, I always get that "can't find z-link" message. Wish I had one just to stop the message from popping up.

lifechanger - this is how the luna fits in my mix:

i have a cusl2-c - my luna is in slot 2, my pulsar is in slot 4 - they are both are irq5. i have a scsi card in slot 6. i use the midi i/o on the luna for my drum kit/dm5 - i have not yet used the audio i/o - and of course i use the dsp and nice compressors, etc.

regarding your problems: i never get the z-link error cuz i do not have the luna software installed  (not quite sure why you do). it sounds like you just need to uninstall the luna software and use the luna in pulsar OS - [you need os 2.4a]. be sure to snag all of the luna modules first - mixers compressors and stuff, and just put them in your pulsar devices folder and load em up and register em too.

you might be better off just getting rid of some stuff - sounds too complicated! [i'll take yer Oasys! ]. i would sell that sblive and put the oasys in the second box and hook up the oasys in the one box to the pulsar in the other box via an ADAT line, and send the other pulsar adat i/o to my vm200 for mixing and monitoring . . .

you have the stdm cable plugged on the ends only right? [leave the middle one unplugged in a 2 card setup]
