External USB Memory Sticks

This is not a critical issue, but whenever I find something that causes Scope to crash, I become concerned.

I love to transfer new devices from my internet compter to my DAWg's, so they remain free from anything harmful such as viruses, etc.

I actually have discovered a workaround by using a 2GB Stick, instead of the 256MB Stick. So the problem has been solved, but I really need to understand all of Scopes' little quirks, as I dread the day something goes wrong @ a gig from some silly human error, which in my case happens all the time, but @ least I am causing it off stage.

I also noticed that when I boot the DAWg's with a 256MB Stick, I get a message telli8ng me to hit the enter key to continue, but again, if a 2GB Stick is in the USB port, nothing goes wrong. Is this a O.S. related issue?

I bet your right 'bout that,
GaryB will be coming again in June, and I will have my shit list ready. I have screwed up my O.S. settings on DAW #1 due to a crappy keyboard ( 1U Drawer ) and glide mouse. It has stacked folders on me causing much grief, that's why I got another one on order. It's 425 USD though !!! But it has a trackball, extra hot keys, and a 4 port KVM built into it. It's a one of a kind, and it has backlit keys too. ( 1U )

I will just use the sticks that work, which seem to have to be a GB or better, as my 128MB sticks crash the app also.

Thanks Brosky,

It's more dangerous to boot off a usb memory stick than your hard drive, do you remember where viruses used to originate from, yep removable floppy disks, it's exactly the same.

I run virus scans on the sticks even after downloading new devices from the Z.

I don't want to boot off of these period, out of laziness I like to leave them in like the Syncrosoft dongles.

It's a marvelous weekend BTW. I have had great Giga Scope Practice sessions, and had my dog walked by a beautiful Russian cutie.

Life Is Grand,

well, a 256 MB stick may have an usb 1.x interface which your installed drivers don't support fully, hence the message.
As that sh*t is supposed (afaik) to generate a million interupts per minute, it's no wonder your DAW gets a tiny bit unstable.

I dunno the USB 2 specs in detail, but most likely things have been improved on version 2 interfaces - got a couple of Buffalo 2 Gigs recently that perform several times faster than their predecessors (due to different mem cells, tho).

cheers, Tom

You were right about the USB 1.0 stick. Who'da thought 'eh ?

The 128 and 256 are only good after the boot process.

Once again Planet Z to the rescue.
