Im planning to build myself an basic DAW from scratch to be able to record and produce my tracks.

I was summing up what would i need and came up with this kind of setup:

Im doing all kind's of music from Singer Songwriter to some kind of weird electronic stuff. Main reason mainly to get Emu X Board as masterkeyboard is the great discount you get with it from theEmulator X2, which is planned to be used in my setup as a base for all kind of piano, string and drums sounds (=basic sounds), since i don't really got any hardware gear or software for that
task. I was thinking Scope as a source of Effects and Synth's and for mxing/mastering. And for mic preamp i tought to buy one Studio Projects VTB-1 for starters, since it has got some great reviews.

As a sequencer' im thinking REAPER and ENERGYXT which both are quite cheap, but i founded both of them working quite well for me.

I also already have couple hardware synthesizers, Korg Electribe R and A, which im not planning to give up because the theyre quite fun to play.. But i also got the an Novation SUPERNOVA, and since Scope's synth's are apparently quite good, and im planning in some point invest to John's Solaris Plugin, im
wondering should i sell it off?

What do you think about the setup? Am i misiing something?

i had a VTB1 preamp 1 year ago and for the pice you cannot find better ... furthermore it is convenient to control the tube action. Small gear with great sound...

I definitly would recomend that you build your computer with the right elements :
1) mother board is very important (many problems with recent boards like P5B etc...). we are many here with intel motherboarsd and they work smoothly (P965LT for ex. which costs 100/120€). Just add corsair ddram which are quite cheap and afford a very good compatibility...

2) As for the CPU, just chose one of the 4Mo cache2 versions (there are now other alternatives if you don't go for the E6600 intel proc. E6320 and E6420 offer a Cache L2 of 4Mo). Less than 200€ ...

I would advice a Seassonic power supply (at least 500w cos intel boards need power) if guietness is an important issue for you. I am also really happy wth my noctua H9 cpu fan system (you cannot ear it !).

Just my opinion (and my experience !)...Just buil a reliable computer as you are getting a very good and professionnal audio system (scope pro+A16 ultra is a good choice... hey chose the right connection option : "plus" is balanced XLR, great when recording, adat or "zlink" option if you plan to use this firewire-like connector for the A16...). This system as a whole must be an investment so reliability is very important IMHO..
