New Scope 4 - Teething problems

Post by das97 »

Hi all. I have a few problems with new install. System is:
AN832-SLI
2Gig PC3200
2X250 SATAIII drives
1X160 EIDE drive
AMD 2X64 (4600)
Nvidia 7600 PCIe
Pulsar (Gen 1 - 4 DSP)
SRB (Gen1 - 4 DSP)

I realise now that I have the wrong mboard but it's too late too change this now. I'm having a few problems after Scope 4 install.
I have sorted a few things out with the help of this forum so big thanks for that, but I still have 3 main problems:

(1). I know I shouldn't expect miracles but I can only get 3 Masterverbs in before getting PCI capacity limit warnings. Is this about right for the cards I have?
I have no conflicts in the IRQ list.

(2). I'm not sure these Pulsar cards have been seen properly or are the proper way round but all the cset.ini items in the forum do not look like mine. Currently cset says:
[Host-Config[
Numboards = 1
Board 0 = Host

In the DSP meter the DSPs are in order of 1/1,1/2,1/3 etc. but in the Samplerate-Settings box there is a label "Pulsar[2]" just above the opt.ADAT setting.
I'm not sure of the syntax of the cset.ini now so I don't know if this is ok or what to change it to if it's not.

(3). I don't seem to be able to get a midi signal to CubaseSX3. I have "Lightwave-Midi-Out" going to "Sequencer-Midi-Dest-1"(in). but no midi signal is in the transport bar of SX. My keboard is triggering the synth ok (sounding via Wave-Dest-1).
In my BIOS, says midi is on IRQ5 channel(I think) 330
In Cubase "Device Setup" I have "Creamware MIDI in/out 1" (Active)

Oh, bye the way, are any of the synths polyphonic? I'm only getting 1 note at a time from any of them in Pulsar.

Sorry about all the questions, I have probably researched and read manuals for the last day or two. Getting desperate now, I just want to get on with it. I know a lot of you guys have been where I am so I know you understand.

Many thanks...

hi. just some small hints.

Polyphony: you can adjust the number of voices for each synth. most of the time 1 is default. read about your Live Bar in the manual to see how to adjust this.

Routing: If you want to send midi to Cubase from an external controller, route Pulsar Midi Source (or similar named module, this represents your hardware midi in connection) to Sequencer Midi Dest.

In Cubase, Set your tracks midi input and output to Creamware Midi.

back in routing window, route Sequencer Midi source to the device you want to control.

Regarding your pci bandwith trouble, try a different pci-slot.

Thanks Pidi. Got the polyphony done ok.
Midi - I always had trouble with this. Now I've got the midi spike in SX transport bar which is good. However, I've got no monitoring sound now :-( I tried bring the midi out from sequencer-source-1 to lightwave but... nothing. I'm running the outputs from Lightwave into stm1632. I'm not sure how this works but I can't be sure that Cubase is sending the midi signal back (soft-thru is enabled in SX).

Yes, I think I may have to swap the pulsar cards around.

Thanks for your patience.

Is the midi indicator on lightwave (the little red LED) blinking when you press a note?

If not, ensure that the track you are controlling in cubase is sending midi to Creamware Midi Out.

if it is responding, do you see the audio meters in your mixer move?

Hi Piddi, thanks again. I need all the help I can get.

Right, I was going to say "no" but I decided to restart Scope because none of the Midi was doing anything I thought it ought to. Anyway now I do have midi going to the Lightwave and to the sequencer too. This is what happened.

1. Started Scope with default project.
2. Connect Pulsar Midi A Source out - to - Sequencer Midi Dest 1
3. Added Lightwave from the Livebar
4. This made it's own connection to the aforementioned Midi Bus

So My controller keyboard on pulsar-midi-source-A is now sending midi to both the lightwave box and to the sequencer. OK,

Now I disconnect all the Midi connections and try as you suggested: Midi Source to Sequencer Dest - the Sequencer source back into Midi in on Lightwave. No orange Midi light there.

Maybe it's something in CubaseSX. I've been on the Cubase.net forums for hte last couple of hours, seems that there have been some problems. Haven't found any good answers yet though. I'd be inclined to put my old VST24 Cubase back on (never had any trouble with that) but I don't have a parallel port anymore for the dongle.

Excuse me piddi, I have just gotta have a break and get a cup of tea (or maybe a Jack Daniels would be more appropriate for man pulling hair out!

Hi Piddi,

I swapped the boards round. Now "samplerate settings" box shows [1]. cset.ini is exactly the same. However, now I only have to put 1 Masterverb in and I'm getting PCI capacity reached. I guess I'll have to put them back. The only other PCI slot free is slot 1 and its very very close to the graphic card (there would be about 4mm between them).
