VDAT stopped working

Okay, this is a weird one.

I'm a big fan of VDAT, and use it all the time for the odd transcription recording from motherboard audio (cloning an iTunes song, etc.) or dumping from vinyl or cassette tape through the SCOPE inputs.

I've had VDAT dialed-in on my routing window and working for about 4 years now.

Suddenly, not only can I not record anything new to VDAT (meters on VDAT surface don't bounce), but also my old .vtp files won't play back either.

I have tried removing and reinstalling the VDAT plugins to the routing window and reconnecting them to the mixer. No dice. Everything else about my twin SCOPE cards and SFP 4.5 seems to be working fine, including playback from motherboard audio and all Cubase and Avid operations.

The only change that I made was to try switching to 96-kbps frame rate, since I'm presently doing a double speed cassette transcription. I don't know if it was not working just before changing bitrates, because I didn't check! (You know how it is... you don't expect it to not be working so you don't test it before making what should be a simple change.) Well, it didn't work at 96, but now it's not working at 48 either (maybe it wasn't and I didn't know). Like I said, everything else seems to be working fine.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem, or have any idea which bung-hole I may have dropped my brain into?

Thanks kindly!

have you tried a brand new project with VDAT added - does that play back the old tapes ?
I'm not sure, but a 'project' seems to be able to store (hidden?) information about clock and sync - possibly a 'duplicate project' (to be safe), re-set clock/sync and re-save may cure it.

cheers, Tom

What I've tried...

Okay, I have now tried starting a new project from scratch, using various sample rates, but most especially using 48 kHz.

I've also verified that I can't merely switch sample rates from the front of the A16 Ultra by pressing the button (all the channel LEDs light up in a pretty pattern).

It does appear that everything except VDAT is working.

I've also verified that my original VDAT track files are still intact by importing them individually into Cool Edit Pro.

Any idea where I take this next? Gettin' desperate...

i have the same problem...
Suddenly, not only can I not record anything new to VDAT (meters on VDAT surface don't bounce), but also my old .vtp files won't play back either.
except for the "meters on VDAT surface don't bounce" part.

what happens when i try to create a new vdat-project: it creates empty wav-files with only some bytes instead of many mb depending on the track length, tho i have plenty of disk-space left. the wav files are not corrupted, i can open them with any editor/player, they are not empty, but it can't be recorded as the wave goes only to the + not - (and only some bytes long)

i searched for vdat problems threads, but this was the only one with the same/similar problem.

what i've done yet:

- i reinstalled the vdat.oxe
- deleted the .wav and .vtp files and recreated them (.vtp look fine in text-editor, wav not corrupted but not working)
- unchecked "read only" for the scope directory and all sub dirs/files
- chkdsk'ed all partitions

everything worked fine until i had a BSOD with "Driver Corrupted MMPool..."
everything works fine so far since then, except vdat...

do i have to reinstall sfp? i haven't done that for ages. but i'm not sure if that will help anyway. will the drivers be reinstalled when i install sfp?

thanks for help!

reinstalling sfp over the old install fixed the problem. a kind of magic bullet :D thanks again Gary!
