The 'return' of Guitarra!

When I was a University student, long long ago the BBC put on an amazing series called "'Guitarra!' The Guitar In Spain"

It starred Julian Bream, and he travelled about Spain discussing the musical heritage of each of the regions he passed through as well as the history of the Spanish guitar and its composers.

My favorite episiode was when he met Paco de Lucia. They sat down together and Paco belted out a few minutes of jaw-dropping flamenco guitar. Julian was obviously gob-smacked, and quipped, "looks like I better put some glue on my fingernails too!" :-D

It has never been repeated on TV as far as I know :-(

However, it is available from Amazon on DVD. Mine turned up today and I intend to devote most of thie week's evenings to watching it.

If you like classical guitar in any shape or form, this is a must-have! Bream himself gives some amazing renditions including my all-time favorite by Tarrega, "Recuerdos de la Alhambra".

Counterparts, My Brotha',
This was good enough to be in the tips thread. Thank You very much, as I need to practice and learn as much Classical, and Flamenco as possible. I intend to perform all instruments w/ my sampler apps, and Scope. More ammo is always required.

22 years plays tricks with one's memory :-)

It wasn't Paco de Lucia at all, it was Paco de Luña. Still an awesome flamenco guitarist though.

Julian Bream plays this mind-boggling Fandango (with himself) at the end of the third episode...I've never heard anything like that! :o

I don`t know much about how to play a guitar but I Like it and it`s indeed a cool present for a mate of mine.
By the way german users may want to order it via zweitausendeins. It seems a bit cheaper there.

It was actually a German production, not the BBC as I'd first thought so perhaps that's why! :-)
