well, it's easy...
the more ugly the case, the cheaper it is :D
starts with a beige 4 units box which can use a standard powersupply and is generally identical to a regular (tilted) tower case, including bolt positions etc.

Your attention should be on the depth of the case, in particular for 1 and 2 unit boxes, which can be over 30 inches...
these also require special powersupplies and PCI extenders, so I wouldn't suggest them for a 3 card setup.

I have one of those 'beige beauties', 20" deep, made of solid steel and it seems to absorb heat and noise quite well - it's heavy... more than one would expect a first glance.
Mine has the 'standard' harddisk cage, but there are also (better) versions where the disks are mounted deeper inside and right in the main airflow of a case fan.

cheers, Tom

I'have got a 4U and it's the minimum, I think 5U it's better.

Brotha' Man Funkyr,
Try some of these @ www.bsicomputer.com. A friend of mine bought the one w/ a built in LCD / Keyboard for stage. It runs his VST Chainer and VSTi's but the LCD's heat needs a fan of it's own.

Hi,
Cheers for the info... I think I'll go for the 5u. Not that I need all the functionality that most offer (redundant PSU etc). Just want scope in a rack.
Thanx all.

The link doesn't work scope4live. Hey carvinguitarfreak I'have got a scope in my 4, it's not a problem of lengh but a problem of air circulation.

Hi,
Is there overheating issues in 4u cases? Is a x12cm and 1x8cm fans not enough? Im eyeing up this one.

There a big price gap between 5u and 4u. Im cheap :P
Thanx

Dimensions 21.25" (W) X 19.25" (D) X 7.25" (H)

... I have a feeling they have messed up depth with width, and that you would have a hard time to find a suitable rack to put it in ... the problem with the wast majority of rackmountable pc cases :/

Hi,
Thanx Immanuel, I never noticed that and just assumed that all would fit a 19" rack. The search continues.

the width always fits - the depth is critical (unless you don't want to close the case), but even 21" would be one of the shorter PC cases
