Hello.

MIDI appears EARLIER then when it is played. I played a note, and it appeared 230ms BEFORE the audio.

Following advice on the cubase forums I have disabled directDraw acceleration in dxdiag, and selected "Use system timestamp" in device setup->direct music, but this didn't help.

This is definitely MIDI appearing EARLIER then played, and NOT audio appearing later due to latency.

Any ideas ??

i had issues, so i just reinstalled windows, scope 4.5 etc, now its gone, don't know why , there are no easy answers if you try all the little stuff

it depends on where the audio comes from, in co-operation with your Cubase latency settings.
If the audio is recorded from external gear, you only have to face Input latency.
If the audio is produced by a VSTi, the audio is also delayed by the Output latency.
The way your system makes corrections in the arrangements of your audio tracks depends on your settings in Cubase, where you have different settings for In- and Output latency, and -in expert mode- 'adjust for record latency'.
The latter compensates for the VSTi output latency.

i could think of settings that makes midi look like being delayed while it actually is the audio.
Sorry for suggesting exactly what you're denying on forehand, but maybe it brings you closer to the solution of the problem, tho I must admit that 230 ms is a lot when talking about latency these days

do a search under "use system timestamp". that's the setting in cubase which must be changed if it's a playback problem.

I guess i will just have to re-install the whole system one day, and hope for the best . Latency is actually not the best term here, since it usually relates to DELAY while the problem here is the MIDI appearing BEFORE the time it was played in.

Very easy to check it when playing to a click track. Audio always appears on the bar, with the click, while MIDI is way before.

I searched for "use system timestamp" but couldn't find anything helpful.

it's a setting in vst device setup, on the midi page, i believe....wait, i'll search for you...

i hope this helps. there are a couple of other solutions in the first thread, but the system timestamp usually is the fix. there's info on this on the steinberg site. it's a direct music problem peculiar to cubase(dx). cubase does run properly, normally.

garyb. thank you for your help. However, as i wrote in my first post - i did select the time stamp. The 2nd thread you mentioned related to midi being late, and not early as in my case, but still - i followed it all, and it didn't make a difference.

Any other thoughts appreciated.

ok, sorry, i see that you've been round and round a couple of times.

i guess i don't have anything better to share. that's a strange problem....maybe the reinstall is the answer....
