this is the final mix, we hope, of my band:
http://www.alchemystudio.it/NoDirection ... enti_2.mp3
we play melodic hardcore/rock in italian
i was in charge to record and produce everything, and i'm also one of the guitarist of the band.
everything was done by ourselves... we recorded the drum in our reharsal room on 12 tracks, then bass guitars, voice and so o, all with "low-cost" semi-pro hardware (the most advanced thing i have is the creamware pulsar soundcard!)
just for planetZ fellows...
i have used dynatube bass (ampeg sim) for the bass and dynatube JM for the letf-guitar. the right guitar is recorded from the amp (a brunetti with a 4x12 marshall speaker). the solos are from dynatube MB
we are pretty happy about the result, and for now the production still lacks the mastering, but before to attempt a master i'd like to have some comments about the mix...
any help would be appreciated!
thanks!

have no idea what the song's about, but it sounds positive and fun.
Only thing in terms of mixing is that the drum sounds a bit "raw", and a little weak on the rides.. or maybe a gentle vinco on the drum group might butter it up a bit. But I'm not really familiar with this type of music so I'm not sure of the specific do's and don'ts.

When i get home tonight I'll give it a real good listen and post some comments. I really like listening to live recordings of real instruments. I wish there was more of it here.

good atmos

my taste: (much) more bass frequencies (kick and specially bassgit), ER/ambient/reverb or/and delays on the voice, more volume and attack (try AD) on the kick, and psyco-acoustic correction like the PsyQ does (less mid freq's)

Thanks for posting this, I enjoy hearing mixes of live drums and guitars. Yes, bring up the volume of the bass guitar. You might also try some variations like emphasizing the drums between 1:42 and 1:45.

You might want to take a look at the frequenzy extremes. Do you use a lot of lo- and hi-pass filters? The sound is a bit thin. This might be intended. I do not know. I took in an eq. When I make a 20K band with q5 and boost 12dB, it makes little difference. When I make a 65Hz band with q3 and boost 5db, the differense is also small.
You might want to let something live more in the highs - maybe the overheads or high-hat?
Also, maybe let the bass or the kick have a bit more power in the lo area below the guitars and the singer.
The sound is over all quite dry. Again - it might be intended. But maybe try to add a verb - not so that you notice, that there is a verb in there ... just so you don't notive, that there is no verb in there

With MVP, you can blend down to less than 9 o'clock. It will still glue things together a bit.
These are just my initial thoughts, and please note, that I am not really familiar with the style. Also, I have a feeling (not that I have to back it up with though), that Italian music in general has a tendency to be a bit more thin/dry. So it may suite your audience more, because they are used to a different sound paradigm?
Oh, and by the way. The music sounds fun - like something, that could really get a party started.

I had a really good listen to this and the recording and mixing is very well done.
One big thing though is the guitar. The timing is just not there and in some spots it really becomes messy! Timing for bass at the little bit around 2:32-33 also seems loose. But the recording of the instruments and the mixing is really good. I could suggest some things but it would just be my artistic interpretation and not something that would be a technical improvement if you know what I mean. EG I would adjust the tails of some of the tom hits, I would do some compression/reverb tricks on drums to still make it dry but change the room sound a bit etc etc
I would definitely re-track the guitars to fix timing and fix that little bass bit up as well.
Thanks for posting the song up!
