I get crackling noise on recorded stuff from wavelab 5. It happens only when reducing ULL to 7 ms and below, of course that's not a problem so far as I can play instruments at at 7 ms and below, my question is, how do I set wavelab to record at 7 ms and below ? Thanks in advance for your answers,

Hi,
I think you'd have to use ASIO drivers.....not a problem if using Wavelab on its own, but obviously not appropriate if you're running a sequencer at the same time.
How are you trying to use it?

thanks for your prompt reply, I 've been using it since without crackling noise even with cubase on , as I would record a draft to wavelab, I've never experienced anything so far, as for the ASIO drivers, indeed wavelab bare them, but don't that's the issue here. If I set scope to 13 ms no crackling noise,
no matther if used alone or combined with a sequencer, the issue occured since using core duo 2, it's not ASIO issue as scope flexibility allows that,

pd: I can still record at 13 ms , but it's kinda hustle swapping from lower to higher ULL,

for a draft try to use wave dest instead of the asio ...
i also had some crackling noise if i run cubase -> asio in -> scope -> asio out (or) wave dest -> wav lab .... wave dest works better for me ..... but mostly the crackling noise depneds on my cpu workload ( 2ghz amd singel core ) ..so i freeze one or two tracks in cubase ..... but you use a dual core .... hmmm .. maybe a bad chipset ...

thanks for your reply, I've mentioned using ASIO as sugested by Plato, Cubase and virtual DAT record without problems, no crackling noise, dunno if it has to do with the chipset as it's Intel 965 something can't quite remember,

set priority for wavlab to "above normal" and scope to "below normal"(in the task manager) when using wavlab together with another sequencer that is using a lot of resources.....

I have similar issues and have been battling them since I upgraded my workstation to a core 2 duo running on an intel 975 chipset.

the crackling ONLY occurs in the recordings made by (wavelab, soundforge, cooledit, audition) while playing back sequences from (Live, Logic, Cubase).

cooledit and audition have the additional problems of crackling in recording from analog inputs and pulsar synths.

the buggiest part is that every once in a while I get clean recordings.
I have noticed more crackles while using ASIO2 drivers, and 16 bit Wave drivers. right now I get crackles about 50% of the time and am using asio 24 bit + 24 bit wave.

it seems to help if I start the recording before switching to my sequencer to begin playback, but like i said - I get crackles only about 50% of the time. well, maybe 70% - either way, occasionally I do get a clean recording.

I am tempted to buy an external solid state recorder and just not record on the same PC - but the fact is... I USED TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS ALL THE TIME... so what gives? And that was on a slower machine with less ram and slower disks.

WOO HA! I found the problem!!!

FIREFOX CAUSES CRACKLES IN MY RECORDING!

I did the same recording multiple times with and without firefox running..
guess what? No firefox = no crackles.

try it, see if it's just my system.

you might consider another computer for the internet and having a clean computer for music....2-3ghz p4 machines can be had for $250, older machines for almost free and it doesn't take much to surf...
