NEW SOUNDCARDS : BRAINSTORMING

i was just thinking that our opinion could be helpfull, in the case creamware (inDSP? :) ) is thinking about new soundcards.... So this thread could be a place for all our ideas on this subject...

Here is my contribution :
1) keep the rooting window system !
2) keep the idea of same quality / gradual power (from scope home to scope pro) to keep good quality (converters) and propose different power/packages depending on your budget.
3) Too much plugins are too big for our screens...the dispaly should be customizable
3) instead of pciexpress (this system will die for sure one day...), it would be great to sell firewire racks and leave people chose if they want 1,2,3 (or more :) ) cards in cascade, like Pro Tools ! Thus, your rack is never (?) obsolete ; you just have to create the drivers according to the computer evolutions...
The pros of this system :
- can suit a laptop system or studio needs
- creamware sell both cards and racks (cheaper than Magma please...)
- expandable system less dependant on the pci/pcie, motherboard... evolutions
- if your hardware is not obsolete, many will buy plugins (i mean, the same plugin will have a longer life)... and plugins are more profitable for a company (no stocks, delivery, hardware purchase, manpower...)!

just my humble contribution...

that's probably what will happen. i prefer a card, cheaper and more direct. for the price of a firewire box, i prefer a magma.

Huge Expandable 400Mhz card... better sound than the current one i(f possible).
it will be too sad if cw compromise their sound for making cheaper card :( plz don't do this or if you have to do that do it as a different name..... pulsar_lite or something...

I think the name of the game is integration

Good host integration is what will make creamware a product for the masses imo.
With all the flexibility scope offers at the moment I'm still suprised that it's still considered niche. Routing windows are great for those who want to use it,or who are willing to deal with it in order to use the great instruments/fx. But, a fully integrated product that works out of the box in whichever host is being used is gonna be deal breaker.

exactly! that's what i meant with "between scope platform and virusTI" at the other thread.(not sound, etc)
sorry if somebody got an "allergic shock" reading it :P

the ability to choose between external (flexbility) and internal (price) would be good but not essential.

if there will be a hardware controller, then dispays above the dials/faders like e.g. the novation remote series or the korg micro control have, to show not only the current value but also the destination (lfo-speed, cutoff...) would be a feature to go for. or just compatibility to those controllers.

software integration is not the problem. a better hardware controller integration would be nice. imho, the software integration is more than acceptable. the world does not revolve around the sequencer. the sequencer needs to revolve around the world....

the world is the whole reality inside and outside the computer!

if the world revolves around the sequencer, then the computer becomes an island.

scope is the platform which connects these things. the sequencer is just a tape deck.

1) I vote for this with my 2 hands.
2) This feature should be kept as long as modularity concept: 3 scope project board provide all in all the same DSP power as 1 scope pro + 1 scope home which is very flexible in term of building up a setup at everyone rhythm (in term of money especially).
3) OK for the Firewire concept, but why not daisy chaining FW racks like what is done for PCI board. The first rack would be in charge of plugin activation for example. If neccessary, just set up a standard rack with 1 or 2additionnal extension boards (just as what was possible to move a NOAH to EX version).
Also offer some I/Oless racks for power expansion just like the SRB boards...

My 2 cents ... ;)

stardust, what do you mean by "Audio andMidi and VST/Rewire integration", then? i agree with gary that software integration is "acceptable" already and hardware integration into vst was a big innovation last year (world integrated into sequencers :P ).

i didn't know about the latency problem though.

Better hardware controller integration is on the top of my list too. Midi automation sucks. It's time Creamware got serious about implementing better automation.

yep.
that's what would take the platform to the next level.

Yes, better midi. Should be very useful, Imho , the possibility of use the SysExs.
I mean the possibility of handle sysex (create them into an editor, assign different sysex to different devices, save them in the preset window, etc...).

Uses? For example to have a smoother control on filters and vca, an easier way to control devices with lots of controller (as the mixers) etc...

I should keep the routing flexibility and the modular idea of cascading several boards. I like the possibiity to choose different power with different budget keeping a good hardware anyway (good converters, good samplerate, low noise etc...)

Hell leave a salient place where man has been
Or tear it down and start again wouwo

nice song :)
so what is exactly is coming from cw this year. does anyone knows? does cw consider us(what we..old pulsarian need) or they have their set plan for future market.
thanks
btw... can cw make a sequencer with vdat technology( vdat sounds better than any sequencer...as ppl says so)

I think it's an obligation to keep the routing windows. And the sysex is a great idea too. I am agree with the automation, in the mixer it will be nice to automate the compressor and the EQ, and have more than one channel to do that.

I'll certainly second better midi control. Being able to address cc information in a Korg Kore(xml?) style way would be sweet too.

As for the PCI-Express vs FireWire... I'd vote a little of each a la RME.

Why not have two firewire ports coming from a PCI-Express or CardBus Express device. Since most laptops only have one firewire port, if any, then it would make sense to use some external adaptor. Plus, it would be an opportunity to use FireWire 800 (1394b).

Lastly, how about the ability to address multiple midi channels to any one device!? Man would it be a lot easier if I could just apply 1 channel's worth of cc's to the 1st 16 channels, and another channel to another page of 16 channels. Or even more, apply a channel to panning and AUX knobs, a channel to volume and aux faders, etc.

All this news looks good though, regardless of how it pans out.

Incidentally, it is not at all out of the ordinary to roll the assets and products of one company rolled into a new corporation.

again this shows that creamware is dreamware....

hahaha

The last news about CW was not that good news and what does the community do: they speculate about the next release of CW hardware...

no offense at all, but this is really fun. But I like this community and the way they handle situation.... :D

Its like you hear that next war is starting and all you say is: hey we cant change, lets do a party and have fun.......
