I just got the newer K240 Studio as my christmas present (hey, we're not the richest people in town) to replace my now broken K240 Monitors.. the Studio's are a much more bassier, powerful sounding set. Has anyone else noticed the extreme difference?

I use 240studio, but can't compare to other than the Behringer HPS3000.
I think the 240studio is sounding verry well, but as always, i've seen those that don't like them.

both use different drivers - the 'classic' Monitors are (relatively) high impedance of 300 Ohm, while the Studio is 55 Ohm to better match current low impedance outputs, while still usable with the (previous) 300 and 600 Ohm standard.
They are much more responsive that way, as it needs less power to drive them.
Imho AKG matched the 'basic' character of both versions pretty well.

had a peek at the link Arela posted, as I might need new cans, too.
I really depend on them as the 'neighbourhood' doesn't allow regular monitors at regular levels at my regular 'work' times

For that reason I prefer AKG's X01 series which has a wider and more open soundfield than the 240 and 271, but it's a tradeoff for 'punch' . The latter 2 are much more 'direct'.
But I'd pick an AKG anytime from the 'affordable' brands - I found them the least coloring and most relaxed listening
cheers, Tom

the also changed the design a bit, and now I think all models come witha detachable chord. So you don't yank it by accident and ruin the connection, like I did with my old ones.
