OK thanks for your reply. I am using word clock as an external sync.

I have midi source module connected to MTCtoCLK which connects to the VRC-128 (set to MTC sync), connected to the VDAT. Cubase 4 is sending MIDI sync and pointer.

yeah, i think you should just use midi clock.

the digital sync source is not part of the equation..

Braincell, slave Cubase via the clock input on the ASIO module. You'll get the tightest possible sync between Cubase & Vdat by doing that.

so it's possible to record to VDAT via Cubase ? How ? Does that affects the overall sound. I own a VDAT would like to use it as my daily basis recording machine, replies welcomed and grateful :wink: ,

I was thinking in the same direction, but just couldn't remember if the 'autoreturn' could be set to the appropriate loopmode for record and playback and overwrite and playback...

At the end of the day there is NO delay as such between Scope & an ASIO app like cubase if you slave the ASIO app to Vdat via the ASIO module in Scope. It's sample accurate. Obviously it still makes sense to allow a lead-in of a couple of bars as you would do on old analogue tape after pressing the play & record buttons, but this has been said before by Atom if I'm not mistaken.

Yes shroomz, i always bar1 as lead in, then i put a small ping at start of bar 2.
Then i always can glue it all together as wavefiles, IN SYNC

I always start a song at bar 17, with adjusted time line offset to have the start still at 0:0:0.
It allows a 16 bar 'parking room' at the left, f.e. for original parts or variations, you can add an extra introsound later on, and gives room for start controller settings of course

btw did you have a look at the settings in VRC ? there's a general pre/postroll plus individual track delays...

I tried the ASIO. Didn't start for some reason. I wish it had Rewire. It would be so much easier. That is the one thing on my wish list for Creamware. I don't have to think about anything with Rewire.

Braincell, for yourself & anyone else trying to sync cubase & VDAT, I'll try to explain in more detail how to set it up to work. I think It's been explained on the forum by Atom on several occasions, but another time won't hurt anyone. It IS a bit fiddly to figure out at first & since there's a lot of people on the forum who don't perfectly understand english, I've made a couple of self-explanatory screenshots. (see below)





As you can see, I haven't connected any audio channels in the Scope Routing window, just the sync connections.

Set it up as above with a tape in VDAT, use the VRC as master transport & you're rockin'. The only other thing you'd have to do is switch on record enable in cubase if you want to record in there, otherwise the other main cubase transport controls should automate perfectly from the VRC & without delay.

This is the best way to sync VDAT & cubase AFAIK.

Btw, anything which I mentioned related to Cubase in the post above, relates to SX2. I'm not sure how different the transport panel & sync setup section is in versions 3&4.

Almost forgot, to work this way it doesn't matter if VRC is set to 'normal' or 'MTC'.

yes, also this method should work without the vrc(clk out of vdat into clk in asio2 dest).

The VRC has more advanced transport controls, like the track delay, pre & post roll etc that Astro mentioned above, but if you don't need all that, then just using VDAT should be fine.
