ssl channel strip

I was messing with the waves ssl 4000 emulation... what have I been ignoring all this time? This thing is incredible!! The waves one is too expensive.. but maybe I can afford the DAS version of the 9000 channel strip and bus compressor.. No one told me these compressors worked like magic. My jaws are still on the ground from fiddling with it last night.
whoa, it's been a long time since I got so fired up about a plugin. hehe.

Waves makes great stuff. You get what you pay for. Plug-ins continue to get better though. How about the hardware version? Only $3,840 USD!

If I remember right, the ssl 4000 has a comp on the talkback path, sometimes engineers (americans mostly) tend to patch the snare drum through the talkback comp, because it gives the snare a special character, strange world.
I agree, the waves/ssl thing is a bit magic, I never squeezed so much dB out of a signal and it sounds great.

The snare trick was 'found' with the Genesis album where Phil Collins & Peter Gabriel were both present, then popularized with Phil's first solo album (had the single 'in the air tonight') and abused for a lot of the rest of the 80's.
SSL actually released this as a cross platform plugin called LMC-1, which can be gotten for free by registering at their store:

as i have writen in another post in "general discussion",waves ssl are very good,they have tried to emulate the console ssl4000 serie "e" ,(same as mine).about das sl9000 channel strip,it's not the "9000" serie as the name let us suppose,but the 4000e too.(true console ssl 4000 e and waves ssl4000 plugins sounds more agressive in mid freq than das sl9000 ).
i realy don't like the true "quad comp" on the true console ssl4000 "e" serie and lot's of engineer like me don't use it,it's the reason why i have made an update of the first sl9000 master comp .i have change some algo,now it's more adapted for using in a pulsar.
you should try das sl9000 and if you can ,you could compare it with the waves.
don't forget the price and the 2 das offer...

I read on the news section of your site that you get a free plugin with a purchase from the CW store? Just wasn't sure if the free plug in was the 9000 comp, or the bi-mode comp.
btw, what's the bi-mode comp based on? Any stories behind it?

btw, what's the bi-mode comp based on? Any stories behind it?
you will received the sl bi-mode and the sl9000 master comp v2 for free by mail
the sl bi-mode is based on 2 algo : 1 classic and 1 vintage tube comp/limit i use when i was young

if you choose the" trans "mode ,it's a good comp for pumping and the tube mode is for voice.
for me and lots of sound engineer,a good comp/limit is when the pump is not "hard" it's better when it's smooth,and it don't have to color the sound.just try it and compare it to vinco for example...vinco is very good,it's like a good transistor comp,i use it on voice too sometimes.

"We will be releasing PC drivers for our Duende DSP plug-in processor later
this month. At present, the only PC plug-in we have is the LMC-1 Listen Mic
Compressor, which is available for free download from our website."

i have to say that das's version two sl9000 is a whole lot better than version 1, i beta tested it and put it across my drummix yesterday, and its better than the neve comp and eq's from uad. , i thought it was hard for a cw designer to beat uad comps as they have some of the more complex algo's in the business, ....but das will put uad out of business with the new sl9000,...my ears are getting better, so that i can pick up the depth in the device, ..one doesn't look for colouration as much as transparency and depth after a while.
