I think you could try to open up the sound of your voice, it's coming from the back of your mouth too much now
Hope you win the contest

do you think it sounds that i sing from the back of my mouth all the way or only for some parts of the song? thanks for your critique hub

I thought you were taking the p*ss Legros

Sounds like a cross between a drunken zappa & a Vic Reeves impression of a drunken & completely awfull 'club singer'. If you meant it that way (as a sort of joke) .. then it's spot on !!!

 I meant it as a parody yes. tortelvis from the dread zeppelin does it in a much more credible way.. i also want it to sound good, but can't seem to do any better than this yet.. ah well, i'll keep on trying, thanks for the feedback

Works for me. You got the Dread Zeppelin atmosphere perfectly.

I worry about the fact that this song is copyright material and perhaps should not be here as per the rules of the Z.

Paul, thanks!! now i'm puzzled again. That is why i posted it here, i got a third of the people who listened to it telling me it's cool and the others yelling or laughing at it

about the copyright stuff, i'm only linking the mp3 to my server and i haven't made a dime with it yet. but i'll remove it if John feels unconfortable.

well, I rarely agree with Shroomz, but you're in fact 'spot on' to kill everything that might ever been in this song
they'd rather sue you for that attempt than for any money

my wife might like your version, though - she's a big Stones fan but truely hates that tune.
Btw she once commented a couple of girls passing by (on a sports event) as 'can't stand those bitches' and one of them was indeed called Angie...

have you considered a cheezy version with french accent ?

cheers Tom

Hey!! I forgot to say I LOVED IT !!! It had us in fits of laughter here because of your comical take on it ... exagerated vibrato 'n' all

Great stuff Legros!!

funny you should ask because we just finished recording my girlfriend noémie in a very different 'french' version, voice over plain folk guitar (it started like that)that's going to be put up against all versions and free to be worked on by anyone who'd like.. i'll give you guys the link soon , never know who'd be interested

hey shrooms, glad the thing got you guys giggling

yes, all the time, only during a split second of one 'A-a-ngie' I heard another timbre.
I can't imagine there isn't more possible with any mouth (cavity).
I'm not plei-ing for that vocal technique of classic singers like opera singers.
Pop music offers many examples of great yet very 'faulty' voices, but to my ears your back sounding timbre doesn't sound attractive for that matter, be it a parody or not.
Glad you pic it up as constructive, thanks

edit: about the mix which you couldn't get better as you said:
the voice stands a bit 'naked' in the mix.
To smooth the mix of band and voice you could make smarter use of two or three different reverbs.
One medium hall, one Room or Stage, and one Ambient' or Early Reflections.
The voice can get all of them to some degree, the band will win from room and/or Hall, and the drums love ambient if you wanne keep them dry.
The laughable effect that the track has comes largely from the lonely way the voice is in the mix together with the (parodical) dramatic appeal it seems to have.
The voice as is could also win from some equing, I would nock down the dark area of it, to open up the sound.
A Chorus on (parts of) the drums and some band instruments could give you the wide 'backing' in the picture of the mix.
A reverb on that chorus effect can enforce that glueing effect.
A PsyQ like effect is certainly a good mastering effect for this mix, you can hear the Fletcher-Manson curve

But all above could dramaticly be nonsense, so you have to try it out
cheers.

I have to thank you guys for all good advice, especially you hubird. It feels a lot better than having no response.
about the mix which you couldn't get better as you said
no no, i meant that i can't get the voice interpretation any better; as soon as i try to give it a more credible crooner like tone, i lose all the power. haven't touched the mix yet, i just smashed the voice with a stock compressor and slapped a delay on the 2 bus.. but i'll sure try out everything you wrote

now what the fuck is THAT supposed to mean
