Hey, hello Z people!

As you can see, I have added a crazy little picture or “avatare” as they say, to represent my feelings and interests, which appears every time I write something in the forum. I would like to encourage everybody to have their own little avatare picture, as long as it is not heavy, to give some extra cool feelings to the forum.

My little image is 7kb, I think it is very important to keep load low, that's the only need truly.

The one for John for instance, could the very Planet Z logo, and so on.

Keep them coming!

This could be one of the bells and whistles of the new planetz board. Too much trouble otherwise if you ask me.

No trouble at all, and no need to program anything. All you have to do is to get into your "Edit Profile" tag, add the address of your picture like this:

[-img]albg.blablabla.jpg[/img-] (but without the -, I put them so you can see the string)

That's all.

50K is way more than any avatar I have ever seen and not everyone will use them. Space is not an issue.

What remains is the loading time on modem connection for a page with lets say 30 posts with each poster presenting the avatar picture with 50k each....
Wow!, you're right, I forgot this kind of connection, I haven't had them for about seven years now... so I forgot they exist...

You don’t need to have a server or doing any kind of complex programming.

Steps:

1- Go and register for a free web space, there are thousand of them on the net.
2- Load your own creation to the space you’ve created.
3- Copy and past the address of your picture using the tags offered in Planet Z, in the section called “My Profile”.
4- When you post, your little thing will appear at the bottom of your post.

I think the only condition should be to use something up to 10kb, so it is very light.

First of all that is a lot of steps, also some sites won't let you do that. They want you to see the ads and they deserve for you to see the ads or anyone who views the picture to see the ads, now you have yet another site with yet another password to remember. I always go what was my user name? What was my password? Say I want to change my avatar... oops email me the password oops it is not there yet. How long will it take. I will try back later. This is insane!

You’re right Brain, how terrible! We should all suicide, how did I dare to ask such a terrible work to do. Particularly taking into account the “painful” process of “writing down” a password in about 4 seconds. I am becoming a masochist or something...

Everyone seems to think that their site is the only one you visit. Oh it's only 4 clicks. You add it up and you have thousands of clicks and passwords. Four clicks is four times the effort of no clicks.

I value your intentions to spice Planetz up, Nestor, but I'm not a fan of (all) those avatars, it really attracks attention opening a page, on and on...

Specially those big ones...Nestor

If I might take your's as an example, I don't like so much the picture.
So what's the sense of it, it's even contra-productive as it makes me think every time I don't like seventies rockstar guitarists soloing, and then even two of them together
No offend Nestor, you know my taste already, it's meant as a good example.

I use my avatar mostly only in the music forum, and then only if I feel the need for it
Could that be a compromise
But then John has to set up hard avatar rules, na-a, it's not gonne work I'm afraid
cheers.

I think it's awesome. Afterall we are a member of a special forum which lives off of tips and customisation of our beloved SFP platform, which is totally customisable. So I am all 4 it. I now have the SDK disc and plan on customising several things in SFP, as soon as the forum at Creamware quits bouncing me out when I register. I would like to post my beautiful fiancee's picture as my avatar, as she has purchased so much SFP stuff 4 me, and because she is a major babe. If she ran for President of the USA, they would call her Babraham Lincoln.

Peace,

Oh well, in my imagination they are a guitarrist and a basist, and they are not playing rock, but jazz-fusion while taking a big sun through a wide open window  true

50k is nothing, some forums are awful! Signatures on http:://www.dogsonacid.com are so awful now, we provide the option to disable viewing signatures entirely in your profile options.

Ehehe Valis,
Signatures are what keep me away from DOA - most part of that forum seems to consist of signatures... It looks much like a contest with bad sense of humor ;) Haven't bothered registering there yet... Sometimes I think there's some interesting posts there, but I haven't got past the signatures yet to read enough of it to thoroughly see for myself. But then again, DOA is an example of a badly escalated signature contest...

Avatars, as on the adern forums, a 48x48 icon below member name on the left of each post, on the other hand, do not clutter the page with off-topic promo as these signatures.

Hey Nestor, don't understand me wrong, I like your signature a lot - it's rock&roll! But I'm afraid not everyone (maybe I underestimate the Z members;) is that creative... As your signature prooves, nothing needs to be changed on the planetz forum options to put a picture in one's signature here, just upload the picture to some webspace. Most ISP accounts include some sort of webspace that can well be used for that, and if yours doesn't, then ask a friend to host it...

at0m.

ps. Nestor, if you disable BBcode in your post, you don't need to use the dashes in Image to put an example of BBcode in a post :)

If you look at Adern, you will see that it very well thought out site. The avatars are indeed out of the way as at0m stated but mainly what I like about that site is that it has dark text on a light background. That makes the Adern site much easier to read than this site is. Some of us are not so young and our eyes are not good. I can increase the text size but then I have to scroll a lot.
