Yeah, I know it's not Pulsar related, but seeing there are so many tech heads out there, I thought why not ask anyway?

Anyone out there who own either the Archos AV 500 or Archos Gmini 500? If so what do you think? Is it worth going the extra bit of money for the recording option? Could it then serve as a hard disk recorder for TV, and could I burn the files I create with Archos to make a standard DVD to play on any system? Is the quality good? To record from TV is it better off using a PC with a TV card/tuner? I have a dediscated DVD recorder, but it is as unreliable as hell!!!!!
I mainly want the ARCHOS as a player, but if it is a decent enough recorder and I can create DVDs on it then I would be happy.

Any input would be welcome.

First you need to find out what is the maximum size (720 X 480?) of the captured video and its compression format. If you want to create/copy DVDs a PC capture card with a S-Video input would provide much better quality and speed.

The only usefullness for Archos video recorder I see is when used to record the video output of your digital camera (they use notoriusly low resolution compressions and in my case, 1 minute recording time limit).

But then again, you can pick up a cheap 3CCD video camera for under 500 $.
