I have some videos I have dowloaded form internet. When try to play them, can´t find the codec. I know I can install a codec pack, but I want to send them to a friend that may not have the codec pack.
I need a tool to can convert them to a standard AVi, or MPEG, to can see them without a specific codec. Can you recomend me one?

There is program called GSpot which identifies which codecs are installed and can point you at the ones you need . It's small and free but it works

vlc media player reads everything that no other player does. It's my favourite player, very light and efficient! And it's free!

I strongly recommend nero show time (just download the demo of the nero package from ahead) and in addition the k-lite codec pack of http://www.free-codecs.com. Best video player I tested so far.

k-lite video codecs will allow any windows app to play back videos. Keep in mind there are different options at install as to what codecs get installed, most normal codecs should be accounted for by the default installation options.

Personally I'd suggest avoiding Nero 7 unless you need it for a modern HD-DVD/Blu ray burner as it now comes with a less than stellar payload that get installed as well (not really spyware, but comparable).

yeah...but once the demo ist inatlled you can delete everyrhing except nero vision an nero showtime, and probably you are able to get V6 demo as well. The standard codecs should be played back fine withou additional codecs. It was just a hint.

CCCP codecs is a must have.

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Com ... c_Pack.htm

VLC player is also better than any players out there for video.

Sorry. absolutely not, It crashed on five systems I tested it was lame and the menu was cryptical and it is overburdened. When it comes to playback I don´t need an info machine or a meta data writer or a networking broadcaster. I need a simple program easy to use, small (even in size) and a fast skiled worker, not an allrounder.

VLC? That's insane... you must have got a bad download or something... it's very stable for me and I've used it on countless machines.

Why is it a network viewer? That seems suspicious to me.
