just trying to remember but was there a way to use mod patches as inserts? I want to do like a lo-fi type effect but last thing I remembered, mod wouldn't go in as an insert..

AFAIK you're correct. I just insert the patch outside the mixer, or when really needed, one can circumvent this by inserting an External Effect, and making a feedback-loop on an unused ADAT connection. Then insert another External Effect into the patch which is just floating in the project apparantly unconnected and complete the chain there...
A bit messy, but that's as good as it gets for now I think. Unless someone comes up with a new shell version - hint, hint.

I think it would need to be a 'mini mod shell' (just stereo in/out) to have compatable I/Os, although JB & Micron are the ones to confirm if it's possible or not. The current shells definately don't work as inserts. Best solution for now is probably a send & return path or just put it inline with whatever you're trying to effect.

gotcha, thanks. Was thinking of doing a lo-fi effect to simplify my usuall EQ->stereo enhance(conver to mono)->overdrive combo and maybe add some controls.

Obviously the mod shell I/Os will not be available as STM send & return connections until you've actually got a mod shell loaded. Other than that it seems to work fine.

I'm trying to convince the modular shell since at least two years to load as insert. It works in a convoluted way but in no way easily for the end user .. either cw does something to allow that (with all save-mod and etc. functions) or an inspiration flash is hitting me (unlikely to happen

).

i'm workin on a modified modular shell that works as insert fx.
The only issue is that midi is not recognized if used from insert slots.
Check this link for the device:

If you figure out how to get MIDI pads to connect via the Insert Slot, it will be fanatastic! I tried many times way back when I was working on the first version of my RD modules, and I could never solve how to 'convert' the MIDI signal to a synchronous one.
peace,

By the way, owners of my RD Modules have had Modular Windows as Inserts from the beginning. I guess this was not known too much if you didn't own the RD modules

Included in the series are several variations - some for audio in/out, some for use with Gate and Time Modulation Inputs, etc.

Hi John,
i'm, trying to solve it, it is strange how the device works fine with midi if used outside inserts and id does not when inserted inside slots....

You're right John,
i'm an rd owner and fan

I've tried the rd modular templates from insert slots (not from modular insert modules) and the only issue is that all the modules works in mono, but the good thing is that the midi automation works fine and i think it needs just some adaptation for the use as insert fx.
Thanks

To make the insertable version work with midi, you'll need to remove the midi modules inside. Works fine here since the mentioned two years

.. well, that was rubish .. it works with the mod2 shell anyway. But perhaps you give it a try ?
Btw, inserts don't connect via the MidiInput, but just by beeing a "folded" module as soon as inserted.

Ahhhh.....I remember seeing something 'hidden' in the InsertEffect mentioning MIDI, but I never tried that, since I was looking for a discreet pad to use....thanks, I'll try it.

Hmmmm, I see that the one Template in the RD series that does pass through stereo signals (Modular Osc&Filters) is missing the R output! Odd, because I remember having it in there once. I will fix.

What's a 'folded' module ?

In the SDK or DP, you can fold groups of items, like in Reaktor, so they become a single unit with IO that are exported of the modules inside.

I get it now, thanks Atom.
