He was way ahead of time, and also correct in how composers would be able to see and hear themselves in his appropriately titled composition " The Future Of Music " which was composed in the late '60's I believe. He was also a fan of the avant garde music lover, Edgar Cayce, who was a healer/psychic of the last century. Avant Garde music is unique as it's description, organized sound.

Last year I went to a concert of his disciple Steve Reich that was dedicated to him...he has been a very influential musician and many contemporary composers owe him a lot. I've always found his music not only clever, but also passionate and emotional, not too common in contemporary music coming from the academies. A great, great musician.

Some years back - maybe his 70th or 75th birthday, the South Bank in London had a Ligeti season and one of the pre-concert events was a showing of a documentary (Arena or South Bank Show, can't remember which) and then a Q&A with the man himself - nice to have seen him in the flesh as it were. i distinctly remember Clocks and Clouds and San Fransisco Polyphony, neither of which i had heard before, fantastic pieces - Clocks being particularly hard to find on CD at the time. It's a pity Sony abandonned their complete Ligeti cycle, although Teldec have partially taken up the banner.
