The second spacesynth contest has now started and the prizes are even better than the first contest. What do you say about the first prize: a TC Powercord Element soundcard !

The contest is going on until the 30th April 2006, so now it is time to sit down behind the synths and start composing.

There are a lot of tutorial material at the website http://www.spacesynth.net which includes midi-files, soundpatches, samplings, etc etc.

isn't this just new wave electro pop? I guess I can fake something like this.. but then again, it's tough to compete with people who are die-hard fans of the style..

I´ve tested a plug in few days ago called space synth. It sounds and looks terrible.
So, I am glad that this contest isn´t about this synth.

Maybe I´ll join in or just send a starchaser track to the contest.

But then, what to do with a powercore card?

kensuguro, your sample has some nice melodies and a nice mood. You could try to get some more bite in the sounds, and some punch in the drums. The snare sounds a little bit weird but the kick is ok (a little bit more punch would be good on the kick). The bassline could have some less decay so that it sounds more aggressive.

ChrisWerner, good question I have a Pulsar2 myself, and I'm quite satisfied with that (although the softsynths are mostly useful for techno music IMO). I'm planning to buy another computer soon, so therefore I find the first prize attractive.

there's something very comical about this whole 80's new wave thing.. I think I need to get me a guitar synth and a neon colored jacket.

kensuguro, thanks for the feedback. I'm still learning, so I hope my songs will be better and better. I have spent a lot of hours with Uknow007 to try to get the classical spacesynth-bassline. Unfortunally I haven't succeeded yet (actually, that was the reason why I bought the Pulsar2-card, as I tought that could sound exactly like the juno106).

I just made an entry to the contest! Interesting! Too bad I can't share it as it needs to be unreleased... or maybe it's okay if it's in an uncomplete form?

It was interesting because I don't really consciously listen to this kind of music.. but then I realized that I had listend to LOTS of music in this style subconsciously as I was playing games! Not to mention that this style swamped the Japanese pop market in the late 80's and early 90's. The first wave of electro disco was of course in the 70's with YMO. So it was fun because as I wrote the piece, all these unconscious memories came to life.

I love YMO tho, they're the roots of all my electro.
