Just a topic,But does anybody think that the invasion of the television industry into music,not like MTV,but Stars in there eyes and Star Academy in France,sort of trollope.I never find the judging panels competent.are they cutting themselves,or the music industry off their branch?.
I'd just like to hear peoples point of view.

i shall return to this topic when i have more time. However, in the meantime i just wanted to point out that a trollop in English is a strumpet or tarty woman

I see this as a mood ... just like what we saw with top models or pornstars previously.
and I rather like to see this people learning something then making waves in a pool

which recall me a day in New York. I was in an hotel near la guardia, and asking peoples there if they knew where was manny's bar. The doorman began to speek with me as I was interested with music. Next day, as I was going out, he came back to me with a piano on a trolley and begun to play in the hall. Damn, this guy was really good! ... and he will never get famous!! There is a lot of musicians around us and TV producers most certainly never met them.

(BTW: since that day, I don't say I play guitar... just I make some noises with it ).

This is true Mr Arkadin a trollop is,as you say, a tarty woman and the good thing about the English language is,you can make silly sounding words up,and people still understand you.

Yeah that's right MD,I can say I play Guitar,but hell it sounds so much better when you make noise.Harmonics a la Satriani and whammy bar and you're away.
Anyway back to the topic.I'm just reading at the moment or I'll probably get carried away with myself.

Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Justin Timberlake all come from the Disney TV show "Mickey Mouse Club". What it takes is to be good looking and have a well connected agent. It helps that the public is stupid enough to buy this crap. It's too bad that people pick music because they find the singer attractive. That has nothing to do with music.

The Rolling Stones are being censured when performing in the Super Bowl. The president asks to raise the defence budget while already facing the greatest deficit ever. It's probably me confusing science and fiction, right :?

I missed the state of the nation address and tried to watch it on cspan but the servers were too busy so I watched Nixon's 1974 state of the union address. He talked about the nation at last being at peace with the world. Bring back Nixon!

Hey....woah.... this is the music BUSINESS. Make art when you want, if you want. Others need to make a living. My understanding is that these shows are cost effective from a production point of view.

Yep, prostitution is "BUSINESS" too. That doesn't make it a good thing.

I don't really count those ex-Mouse club people as making music. It's the same way that I don't count books about "how to get rich in 100 days" and "super fat busting slimming secrets" as really being books.

It's just the rubbish end of the medium "dressed up" to look like the real thing.

well, "american idol" truly does suck, but at least the final contestants CAN hit their cues and sing on key, so from a show business aspect, i can't hate the contestants. they are following the money of the producers and we all want more money....it's the producers who are determined to feed us sh*t that looks like a fine meal....and the masses who beleive what they are told because they are indoctrinated and taught the principles of passivity from the start. this includes "cool people" who hate some music or production in a knee-jerk fashion and who justify the system by making it seem just a little more "democratic"....

I simply make your words mine... and say that, as the industri is in crisis, they will continue to look at anything they can, to continue earning big time money!

Newspapers are usually written for the vocabulary of a twelve year old. Popular music needs similar goals if it is to appeal to the masses. Face it folks, anyone here won't fit in with the "masses" tastes in music.

It doesn't seem to matter what you're into, whether it be metal work, music, chess, table tennis etc ... the better you get at it, the more likely you are to lose the average audience. And the more money you (edit: or your employer) want to make from your craft, the more you'll need the support of the "average" audience. Balance .... anybody?
