Hello to all the musicians friends here

I searched the forum but found no answer to this one:
I'm using Luna 2 with cubase sx from 2003 and everything was going PERFECT(no latency,no overloads,i could use lots of vsti and audio tracks...),it was a dream!
Now 2 days ago i was mixing the demo for my band,and..what happens??Cubase Sx kindly advises me that there is a fatal deadly error, this stuff here that we all hate, and i have the possibility to save the project and bla bla....And this happens all the time i work on that project.Ok,i erase some audio tracks,it works pretty fine now but...Sorry,i'll go to the core of the problem instead of telling you the whole story:I discovered that, with the task manager open,if i simply MOVE the sfp window with the mouse, the CPU goes to 100%!!Here's why cubase was going crazy!
I tried all the combinations possibly,latency,dma,disk buffer,virtual memory...everything.
The only thing i know is that it started doing mess when i started using XTC mode(which i never used before),even if i dont see the link the 2 things might have....
This is making me really angry.
You know,i've got 6 songs in my hard drive and i can't mix them!
Could somebody help me please?
I've got a AMD Athlon 1,2 ghz,1024 ram,Luna 2 soundcard and 80 gb maxtor hd that always worked fine.
Thanks a LOT

Hi,the situation is like you described, except that NOTHING is stable or smooth!:)
Graphic card is the VIA/S3 integrated on the mainboard, but i doubt being it the problem, since i used the pc for making music for TWO years succesfully
Another thing i forgot to mention is that, with cubase, moving the cursor on the transport bar(even with the project stopped)cause the vst Performance DISK bar to go full range..thanks for any help
(Sorry for any english error but i'm italian,i've tried to express myself the best i can

)
So if you say it goes to 100 in your system too,i have to assume that this is a normal thing....and that it is not the problem of my system.

I would uninstall your video drivers, making sure there is nothing left, then reinstall with the latest version. Try this first, before going into deeper search.

I reinstalled the SFP and now the CPU USAGe don'to go to 100 anymore, instead it goes to 60/70,much more normal:)
Now i have to discovery WHY the cubase crashing...during the playing of a particular project, near the end of the song, cubase show an error and crashes(i see the VST PERFORMANCE DISK bar slowly going full and then it crashes.)
Just in that particular song and in that particular spot. And i'm not using an huge amount of wave files, they are 12.
I'm hating windows so,so much........

it can be a particular VST or VSTi. Just a thought...

It's the HD bar that slowly raises...
The crash occurs even with no VSTI or plugins activated, just audio trax..
The crash occurs always in the same point of the song, really strange thing.
I'll try to paste the audio trax on a different project to see if the problem reappears(i hope no cause it would be a mess!)
Thanks guys for your help,i'll let you know what happens next..
Bye bye

Ok the situation's much better now luckily:)
If anybody's interested:
1)Now when i move the sfp window the cpu load moves pretty normal,50/60% instead of full 100 Solved reinstalling sfp
2)I copied/pasted the audio tracks from the project that was making mess to a new project.Everything's fine(i hope!)
The only strange thang that happens now is that,in cubase, when i press the >> (fast forward

) button on the transport bar(or move the cubase position cursor, the long line for understanding),the performance Hd go tu FULL (but the overload red light does not clip)and i hear the HD doing its scratchy sound(the classic scratchin' like when you boot the pc)
Can you guys test if this happens to you too??

that's normal, the harddisk tries to fill the buffer with all track's new starting points.
If you try to do this whyle playing the song Cubase can hang, specially when the song is heavy.
Sometimes you end up with arrangement parts that seem to end at a quantized value (like 25.1.0).
If you open the note editor tho you could find the part end at say 25.1.1.008 or something (see upper bar).
It makes the performance indicator crazy and Cubase freeze.
cheers.

there seems to be a problem with your HD - do you have a test tool available or another disk to copy the projects to (and see if it improves) ?
I don't think that this 'repositioning' or calibrating noise you mention is normal.
The fact that moving the tracks physically (which is what your copy did) made them accessible again also points in this direction.
I don't have Cubase myself, so Hubird's advice might be more appropriate
cheers, Tom

I think it could help to get to your HD vendor, throught the net, and download whichever utility they may have to check the drive reliability.
Seagate, Western Digital, Maxtor, etc., have their own tools, and I have try them as been very effective and simple to use. It is worth the effort.

Try also to increase the cubase buffers in the settings dialog. I don't know where exactly it is located (I haven't used cubase for 3 years) but it's probably in the same windows you set asio etc.
