Hello ,
My HD Cdrv is starting to fail I'm pretty sure . Sometimes it takes minutes ! to save a .pro file during which it makes ticking noises .... and now I'm starting to get blue screen crahes KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR ... ouch .
It's an old IBM HD anyway .
I've made a ghost copy of the Cdrv but I've
been told it's very difficult to restore Win XP to a new drive ..... what about using the clone feature on Partition Magic ?
Any suggestions welcome .
Can I copy my existing Scope installation from the Ghost backup to the new HD ?

My best suggestion is the one Gary told me a couple of weeks ago, when this happend to me: stop using it inmediately!

This is your most important concern. When the drive starts with this noises, it is telling you this:

"Ho... how cruel is live... ho... my beloved owner... I will soon leave you... and with me, all your momories will be also gone..."

So, let's say that drives become dramatic unfortunately... You can loose everything on there...

If you were to get a Western Digital drive, a Caviar for instance, it comes with a utility that anyway, you can download from their site, that allows you to migrate an old C drive to a new one. Then you have True Image, that will also allow you to migrate.

I will nevertheless, not recomend ever to migrate a C drive, with an OS installed, to a new drive, unless you use the manufacturers utility. It could go well or it could go wrong... What I would do at your place, is getting all the important files you consider esential, particularly the way you have arranged your DEVICES in Pulsar, so you don't need to configure it again. Then I would reinstall everything anew. This will always give you the opportunity to make a better start, there are always things to change in a new installation, as technology and programs change all the time.

Hey thanks Nestor .... yes, I think you are right about doing a fresh install ... I tried to ghost this drive to another a few months ago but must have messed up master boot record or something as WinXP would no longer start .
This used to be easy on Win 98 but Microsoft have made it a lot harder on XP ...oh well ...

It's a much, much more complex program than it was 98. Just look at the amount of MB of one and the other... ufff

Yeah for sure , A lot of the complexity is their protection too,yes? .... I'm told that Cubase / Nuendo etc would run about 30% - 40% faster if it wasn't for all the protection these prgms used .... way of the world .

So after all that , I ghosted my Cdrv on to some spare hd space , formatted a new seagate drv , restored "C" to the new drive and it all works perfectly . Fixed . No gripes from XP,how lovely .

Fantastic! Which utility have you used to migrate the "C" drive?

Second Norton Ghost. I've used it many times on Scope without a problem.
