can you post a direct link to your mp3 file? the m3u thing doesn't seem to work with me. (on a Mac)

I can't get this to work either. iTunes just sits there trying to stream but no go

Looks like you did your homework very well, if this is your first finished mix

Great volume balance between the different parts, exellent eq-ing, good choice of instruments and /or samples working together, a well defined arrangement, and -happily- a spare use of reverb(s).

Is that enough?

With a computer one has always totall controll, which means that it's difficult to suggest the counterpart
Yet exactly this can print the sign of the 'master' on it, tho it depends on the type of music (nothing's wrong with the Popcorn song ).
With some faderwork and modulation on effects, synth parameters etc. you can try to add that 'masterlayer' and still enjoy having controll.

A matter of years usually, I will need my whole life for it I'm afraid

yes, i have done my homework... i think i read computer music, future music, sos, and the like for about 3 or 4 months before even getting my midi keyboard, and then another 2 months till i got my creamware card... although i am very far from bieng able to use things like i want. i think bieng a dj/turntablist for 2 years before getting into producing music helped out ALOT! although there was and is still much to learn.

i have probably 30 - 50 8 bar "loops" where i laid down just a melody, or melody and bass, or drums and melody, etc... this is the first track i worked on to completion. i decided i am getting comfertable enough with mixing sounds, and knowing what sounds do go together, and which ones don't... so now it is time to work on my composition and sequencing skills. song structure can be kinda difficult sometimes, especially getting the middle of the track, to be really energized and sound "full"... like everything is there, kinda hard to put into words.

i completly know what you mean, about having complete control with the computer. if anything, i have noticed some producers get out of hand with how much control they have, and have a hard time keeping it simple yet effective. i also agree with you on the mastery... taking years, if not a lifetime to gain control of. alot of friends i have see and hear what i am doing, and get all "i wanna start doing this! show me how! i think i can make some tight shit!" my only response to them is, "i will only show you, if you can tell me that you will develop such a love for it, you will never be happy with yourself. this is a constant journey that, once you start, you will never stop (if you really love it). music is such a broad and never ending entity, you will never know everything, and you should never be comfertable with yourself as a musician. you should always be trying to better yourself, trying to take your music, your knowledge, and yourself to a higher level..."

i believe those who feel they are better than others, or think they know all there is to know about music, do not leave any room for learning, or betterment, or expansion. this is when a musicians style gets boring. you can hear it when someone is comfertable with thier music, and are not progressing.

@h-rave: the synth used is refx's vangaurd. very lovely synth.

Interesting vibe Crisis. It could maybe do with some more crazyness here & there. Maybe with some xtra beef & punch in the sub ranges. That may well just be taste though

Hey, is this mastered to -10/12 db or is it just me?

hhmmm... not really sure what the gains are set to. te tell the truth, i did no compression, or limiting, or anuthing on this. the only mixing i did was in cubase post mixdown. everything runs through the SFP mixer though...

what i have done so far is mix everything to where i think it sounds good, and then do an audio mixdown in cubase... then normalize after.

btw... i did not get around to normalizing this track.

I think the sound is okay.. not sure what exactly is required but it sounds well contained within itself. Good start I think. Keep writing more at a very rapid pace.
