the problem ist what you want to do. Music maker is a beginners program, but wiht a lo of features.
It is based on audio although there`s support for Midi and VSTIs. You can“t change the rythm to 6/8 or something like that, so it would fit dance music a lot better than anything else (although your able to trick around). Btw. Multichannel Recording is not possible, so you have to record all midi devices to audio in a bunch of processes. High Samplerates as 96 or 192 kHz are niot supported.

You got a live-input for directly applying built-in and vst or directx effects.

However there`s unfortunately no pdc. So don`t use xtc (pulsar card).

It think the program is useful and you can get a lot out of it although it can`t be compared to standard Sequencers like cubase or cakealk.
It is easy to use.

It is alright for creating loop based music.

There are programs out like ableton live which are perhaps more professional, but not as easy to use.

It all depends on what you are after.
Music studio is a combi of 2 products. A tracked down logic and a tracked down samplitude.
It is a better buy if you are more into taditional sequencers and of course for things like already stated above.

well, if you're looking for "really good shit" then I would tend to look in a different direction, in this price range anyhow. I would lean more toward tracktion, orion, reason, ableton live.. in no specific order. These are all good simple-intermediate sequencers.

As far as I know, I've never seen or heard of anyone using the magix music maker series. Samplitude completely rocks, but I'm a bit skeptical about the music maker.

@ ken. Music maker hasn`t been made for professionals. It`s a beginners program. And it has some abillities you won`t find elsewhere out of the box (e. g. mp3surround etc.).

the audio studio portion of music studio has almost all of what makes samplitude great(magix was the samplitude distributor(and logic's)for a while, so it IS sam)for a bargain price AND it does on screen pitch correction ala melodyne!

the midi studio portion of music studio(both apps do midi AND audio), is loosely based on logic, is pretty limited for audio, but has nice midi functionality.

both are excellent introductions to a full fledged sequencer. imho, audio studio is worth keeping for your mastering jobs when you do graduate to more sophisticated software. for this purpose, it's every bit as capable, and virtually identical in function as samplitude.
