The subject says it all. We all know how awesome the Scope synths sound. The question is, do you also use VSTi synths to compliment your music and if so, which ones? Are there any softsynths out there that you feel can hold their own against the beautiful sounding Scope synths in a professional production? I'll answer my own question by saying that Sonik Synth 2 has proven to be a great compliment to the SFP synths for me.
Happy Thanksgiving

Native Instrument's FM7, because sysex compatibility and the overall sound quality.
NI Kontak2 because is a lot more flexible and "contemporary" than STS 5000 sampler.
NI Reaktor 5.0 for some extreme and experimental tweaking possibility and his "glitchy" sound.
Often I route these synths trough Scope with some plugs that "analogyze" the sound.
i.e. 1 or 2 "softclip" in cascade, or "V-Tube", in this way the sound raises and becomes more warm and "realistic" (Scope sound!)

Battery 2 (NI) and Ravity S (Luxonix). They're my main Cubase-hosted sound sources at the moment.
Crystal's a really nice (free!!) VST synth too.

Only three, all GForce:
Oddity (because it's duophonic)
impOSCar (replaces my real OSCar that's a little temperamental)
M-Tron (often routed through B-2003's Leslie)
Also looking to get a soft sampler soon as i'm tired of STS not working properly (i can't even record samples at the moment).
Mr A
PS. What's Thanksgiving?

Waldorf Attack as a method of quickly building kits for our Rack Attack. Also love Microtonic.
Other than that we complement Scope with other hardware DSP based machines like Nord M, Elektron SPS-1, Chameleon. Use about a dozen old analogue synths too.
Mr A, does your Oscar still have the original socketed midiboard under the Oscar name at the RHS of the top panel ? If it does, that can cause problems. James Walker at Synth Repair Services in the UK fixed ours & was saying that he hardwires those midi boards now when necessary. He can also fit or provide full sets of replacement pots, replace the battery & software upgrades to the last & best Oscar OS... ehm.. he has the original factory presets too

He's also an expert at taking them apart & putting them back together the right way
Sorry for going off topic Chisel

i also use stylus rmx which allows me to test easily and in a faster way many kinds of drums on my music(because of the immediate flexibility tempo/rythm). This is just a draft approach. After that i chose the sounds i really want trying to "follow" the drum idea i have chosen from the Stylus "propositions".

Mostly NI FM7, Spectrasonics Atmosphere, and Propellerheads Reason. Recently I'm starting to use Arturia Moog Modular V. Other than those, occasionally I might use some other little freebie thing, but those are what I mostly use.

That's a good idea - some VSTi's use softclip themselves but it adds to the CPU use. I wish Scope had some sort of Oversampling or antialiasing filter myself for the same reason - in VSTi's these enhancements take up a lot of CPU but Scope could handle that and this way analogise the sound still further.

I.e. FM7 + softclip sounds so close to the real thing, because DX7 is also digital but his analog converter are particular.
1 or 2 softclip in cascade recreates almost the same feeling.

In a 1:1 comparison I find this solution ok.
Also try this simply trick with Scope synth too...

CrusherX-Live for granular fx
it can route in and out SFP via Asio and sends great midi controllers from it's animated xy-control pads, so one can sync modulate native and SFP stuff
DevineMachine for rythmic loops
also considering Guru
cheers, Tom

Definetly check out the entire line of products from Applied Acoustics (
http://www.applied-acoustics.com/)
I am in love with the sound of their synths - and while they can be CPU hogs - they sound excellent (much better than the vast majority of software synths - and on the same level as SCOPE synths).

Also - NI Guitar Rig. It's the best thing available for guitar - and can also be used to fatten synths up with very good results.

2nd CrusherXlive. An absolutely massive sound not phat but deep and penetrating.
Reason3. Love the NNXT with the electro-mechanical and sonic reality mellotron refills (although I'm thinking of getting the B2003 for cool drawbar action) For drum sequencing reason is king
Korg Legacy. Wavestation...what more can I say!

Korg Wavestation (Digital pack)
FXpansion dr008
FXpansion Guru
SonicCharge µtonic (microtonic)
White noise audio Additive
NI FM7 (sees less use due to FS1r)

I'm a little surprised that nobody's mentioned Kontakt - I've a few friends who use this ansd they all swear by it.
