I got my Minimax ASB a few days back. It dosen't have the "glide" bug but it has these bugs that make it unusable for recording:

1)Every so often one of the notes will be out of tune. This happens on every patch.
2)For polyphonic patches, the voice stealing algorhythm is wrong. It steals the recent notes first, not the oldest!
3)Long attacks are truncated even if there is plenty of polyphony left - this may be related to problem number 2.

Is there a list or something so we know what they're working on?

Well, I never signed up for anything - I just found this list by Googling "Minimax ASB".

Do you have any info regarding a buglist or any fixes in the works?

The SOUND of this thing is amazing but the bugs make it unuseable for me right now. A number of people are waiting for informal reviews (and one formal one) from me and I'm going to see if I can get these issues fixed first.

I took my Minimax ASB to the annual Pacific Northwest Synthesizer Meeting ang got *very* favorable reactions!

This thing could be an absolute *monster* for Creamware but not with these crippling bugs.

So nobody can help at all?

At least confirm these same issues?

Please.

Try to email Ralf ( rb@creamware.de ) for an upgrade of your minimax-OS. He'll need your hardwareserialnumber to generate the software-key.

Hi,
i'll try to give some answeres here.

>1)Every so often one of the notes will be >out of tune. This happens on every patch.

Please make sure, that the glide - mode is disabled. If the glide mode is switched off, then this detuning should not occur.

-----------------------------------------

2)For polyphonic patches, the voice stealing algorhythm is wrong. It steals the recent notes first, not the oldest!

This is due to the low note priority in the poly mode.
-----------------------------------------
3)Long attacks are truncated even if there is plenty of polyphony left - this may be related to problem number 2.

This can be caused also, to the Low Note priority for the last left note.

Cheers
Ralf

Thanks Ralf,
I really appreciate these workarounds. Please let us know when these issuesare fixed.
Maybe in the meantime, you could release a set of patches that have these workarounds implemented - at least until there's a firmware fix.
Another thing that might help is to have Poly mode automatically switch voice allocation to most-recent note and turn glide off.

I'll try your suggestions out when I get home tonight and let you know how they work out.

Thank you for the great instrument!

But you can switch the MiniMax into last note priority, right? You can on the Scope version. I can't imagine why anyone would ever *want* low note priority.

Well, that mimics the original synth it was modelled on

It actually allows you to do some cool playing in mono mode with glide effects.

What I wonder is why many polyphonic presets are preset to low note priority.

Oops, my fault. When I created the new ASB forum, I left it open for anonymous posting.
I've changed it to registered-users-only.

Thanks John!
I'm looking forward to being a useful contributing member of this community!

Unfortunately, Ralfs suggestions do not work. All the problems are still there
I'm in contact with him and Andre. I guess we'll see how this all works out. If they need me to, I can make some MP3s showing the problems.

This is all a little frustrating as these niggles mar what is probably the best-sounding VA synth I have ever heard. Creamware seems very responsive so I have high hopes of a quick fix.

Thanks Ralf,
I'm looking forward! In the meantime I'll hold off on any reviews until the next firmware update. Thank you for your responsiveness! I appreciate the efforts of you folks at Creamware.
The Minimax ASB really is the best sounding VA I've played

You bet! ^_^

It looks like Ralf just sent me a new OS today to test...I'll try it this evening and if its workable, I'll start my analysis and have the review ready in a few days.

Addendum:

The most recent fix has got me a little closer but I want to wait until the allocation/truncation bug is fixed before I give this thing a proper review.

The sound on this thing is so good that I just can't resist playing this thing in poly mode which just gets frustrating because of the bug.

So...I'll wait.

Are there any other MiniMax ASB users on this forum? Do they have the same problems?

James, are you sure there's no way you can work around the problems? 12 voices really is a lot for one patch to need to start stealing voices, maybe you should not have such long release. None of the problems you mentioned sounds so severe that you would need to sell the unit, except maybe for detuning....
