I think the title of a Smashing Pumpkins' song fits good as header of this topic.
Here in Italy people has come back home after holidays (since one month, by this time) and tElEvIsIoN has started to talk again about too high levels of atmospheric pollution in the cities due to road traffic.
In the big urban centres car traffic is forbidden for two or three days at week.
How's the situation in your countries?

School holidays: roads are empty
Kids back at school: roads are stuffed full of SUVs used to take kids too/from school
The difference is quite remarkable!

Maybe I know what you mean.
Listen to a Biohazard' song called Revolution, if you can (and if you can take HeavyMetal). It has a weird end.
I look forward to hear if you know what I mean.

At this point I can't understand if we have low threshold level for atmospheric pollution or very polluting cars.

OK. I've googled a bit about.
Current air pollution stations data in italian cities with more of 1,000,000 inhabitants are NOT published on the WEB (it's possible to find data about smaller cities where the situaton ain't excessively alarming).
I've found a link quoting data by World Health Organization. It's an untranslated italian side (however this is the link)
http://www.provincia.modena.it/gitas/do ... oc02_5.asp
Reported inside, togheter with a lot of other info about this argument, I've found the following table (here translated)
It's referred to the number of people death for reason ascribable to PM10 pollution, in 1998 in the 8 bigger italian cities.
Code: Select all
city Number Percentage on
of cases total of deaths
Torino 420 5,7
Genova 260 3,9
Milano 441 4,2
Bologna 252 5,1
Firenze 181 4,0
Roma 1.278 5,1
Napoli 444 5,3
Palermo 197 3,5
Totale 3.472 4,7
