A bit brief! What's the background?
We already have tag chips in this country...are America proposing a more permanent "chipping" of criminals?

Chipping proven criminals sounds good to me. They're statistically very likely to reoffend anyway. If they can be easily placed at crimescenes it may act as a deterrent.

who said anything about criminals?
that high ranking U.S. senator was speaking about the general population being required to carry chips against their will. he also spoke about precrime, that is, isolating members of society that show a biological tendency towards "crime", whether or not a crime has been committed.....

There's a bit of a stir over 'ere at the mo' regarding the issuing of identity cards, but that American idea is one very large step further down the path! :-/

the real point is that the next supreme court member WILL be ruling on this, so there are definite plans in the works NOW. fascism is so wonderful...it's so beautiful how the human herd is managed...

oh well, i have american's disease. i think that government is supposed to serve me, not vice versa. this is true big brotherism in that the government purports to be everyone's keeper. i don't need my life managed. all i need those guys to do is to provide a safe market for commerce, protect public resources from loss through selfishness and keep the toilets flowing......

considering how broken the law enforcement databases are, and disconnected law enforcement organizations are between different states.. I think this may work in cerain situations.
I think that's the bottom line.. US has a bunch of ways to track individuals, but a lot of the system is broken or not enforced properly. (easy id theft, etc) The chip idea tries to get to bottom of it. Truth is, I think they have no way of ensuring that this will be carried out properly. Not much has worked the way it should have so far. That's why there always a need for a better idea. Just my 2 cents.

no matter how SCARED some people may be of some "goldstein" boogey man, the government's main job is NOT tracking people. it is keeping the toilets from flushing into your drinking water. they are public SERVANTS here. EVERYONE is to be presumed INNOCENT until PROVEN guilty in a court of law, as they say. therefore, the police are to respond to complaints. their job is not to preemptively monitor everyone, nor to do dna and brain scans and determine who is worthy of living.
life is dangerous. the government CAN NOT and WILL NOT protect you from everything and everyone, not even if EVERYONE is monitored. the only thing monitoring is good for is despotism. the more control goverment has on people, the more terror and strife, everywhere and all through history.
national security is an excuse for absolute secrecy in everything that government does, yet this same government wants to know everything that you and i do. since when does the servant get to know all the master's secrets? i'll tell you when. in whodunnit novels where "the butler did it" everytime. corruption is a known quantity, why would anyone entrust that which was corrupt with ABSOLUTE power over his/her life? a wise person would always keep sole authority over his personal property. an unwise person lets a stranger have a key to his house.

Ironic. The chap who succeeded first with DNA mapping (and mapped his dog for fun) found he had all kinds of genetic propensities for illness etc. This genius would probably have been culled.
