I see in the new features list an option to freeze external fx. looks like theres alot more support for those with external devices.

I'd just like to add that the problem with SX not recognising input and output latency properly is now gone and I no longer have the midi and audio offset that I had before. In fact my midi timing is the best I can remember it being...

Have you seen this thread: http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic ... &forum=3&5 ? Seems to have fixed SX-MIDI problems for some.

Personally, I am never going to upgrade Cubase ever again, I am sick and tired of Steinberg freezing development of a particular version, leaving it full of BUGs with the only way out to pay them more money for an "upgrade". They've been doing that since the days of Cubase for Atari

What point is there for 'freezing external synths/fx'? Am I missing something crucial here?

stardust, i was having a few disk spikes (not Cpu) while running large projects, and i knew i had run it before fine, did a defrag and no spikes - i know it sounds well obvious but try it, it worked for me - it might help.

Presumably to free up cpu when applying fx to outboard gear?

Or to free the outboard synth for a second voice perhaps....

My point is that 'freeze' is an offline process (in its currently implemented form in Logic, Samplitude, Cubase etc).

I guess I don't understand the difference with bouncing a track normally. Is it just that it saves you from muting the original track?

I think with Freeze the advantage is you can always undo it unless you have done prepare for archive.
