Just thought I'd share this info.
Got another 2 of my tracks released with Enigma Records here in Australia and New Zealand.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your congratulations and support.

I'm actually planning on "giving up my day job" and trying to promote and distribute some CDs on my own.

This will most likely mean that I either starve to death or make enough money to buy food - but worth it as I'm really tired of not having time to do my music.

Anyone here have experience with setting up a web space with a shop front or using another site to promote and sell CDs/digital downloads?

I'm looking at CD Baby as a starting point - good , bad, silly or don't give up my day job?

Regards
Brett

It's sounding good Brett. Well done on the releases & keep 'em comin'

Not sure about CD Baby, but in theory, there's nothing to stop you setting up distribution deals with multiple distributers, online or off. Releasing on your own label could also be figured in this, as obviously minimising the amount of grubby paws touching your money when you have successfull sales would be advantageous when it comes to the *food* issue

A top tip distribution wise is a Trade show called MIDEM in Cannes, France. You can find info at WWW.MIDEM.COM

If you haven't heard of it before, well, nor have a lot of people. It's a trade only show for the World Music Industries' distributors , publishers, labels, duplicators & Government funded bodies, such as BMI & Scottish Enterprise here in the UK & the equivalent from almost every other country in the world. There's 2 per year. One in Cannes, one in Miani. I was at Midem in Palais des Festivals, Cannes in 2001 & 2003. I still have the bible from the '03 trade show, which on a quick scan Brett, is showing there were 69 companies from Australia in attendance in '03. (not all labels of course)

If you wanted to attend, you should be able to get 80-90% government funding, which you'll need, as it ain't cheep for the show & travel. Having a label with some releases would also be a good starting point for going here. This show helped Soma became so well known & get *real* worldwide distribution.

I'd like to be at this show within 2 years.

I've stuck in a photo of the trade guide or 'bible' as i call it. This thing has just about EVERY worthwhile Distribution company in the world listed with phone numbers, the lot. If you know of a company near you who'll be going, it may be worth asking them to bring you back a copy of this book.
