Hi guys. After I export synths to audio tracks, the result of processing is a dirty and noise.
How to solve this problem?
Pulsar1-Scope 3.1c - Cubase SX 1.02 - XP.
setup asio2 24bit, project 24bit/48

Hi Ariy,

The following only applies if you're using XTC Mode....if you're not ignore everything below.

To export any dsp-based instrument or affected audio tracks, you have to export in real-time. That is, playback speed. You can't do an "Audio Mixdown" in Cubase SX 1.x because it can't do it at playback speed. It mixes down as fast as it can and if you think of a DSP-based instrument or effect as and external device, you can imagine why that wouldn't work.
You have to use the "Merge" function that is included as an input source and an output destination in your ASIO I/O. Output the main mix to the "Merge" out and then WITHOUT DIRECT MONITORING!!! record back in from the "Merge" input to a stereo track. You must not direct monitor the record track because it will make a direct feedback loop which could hurt your DSP card. Preferably Mute the track or set its output to something other than the main output.
It's a very boring process when you have to do it every time. The easiest way to get around it is to upgrade to SX 2 or 3 which can both do "Real-Time Mixdowns". Further, both programs have full latency compensation so when you're using FX on audio tracks now you don't have to use the "XTC Delay" plugin to compensate the DSP latencies on each track. Much easier!!!

Just to let you know, the "Merge" module is module in the XTC project that is classed as both an ASIO source and destination and has its own outputs connected directly to its own inputs. So you can imagine that if you send a signal to it from the software it routes the signal directly into its own inputs which you can then record from back into the software. I know I'm repeating myself, but I just think it's good to know these things. If you want to see the contents of your XTC Project then look in;
C:ScopeAppXTCAppXTCProject.pro
Open that up and you'll see what Cubase is talking to.
Hope that helps.

Cheers,

AudioDan

The real time mixdown is the only way to do it....but its not a bad thing as the track is exporting listen to it, and you get to hear the mix as it is going to be on the wav or mp3 etc....

give you a chance to hear the thing a final time.. kinda like a last check... Ive noticed loads of little things that ive then gone back to the original project and fixed and exported it again and the result is better for it

indeed messiah, it's good to lean back and do it carefully (record levels on different platforms, master effects on off depending on your record routings, the fact of sequencer busses that don't export audio, etc).

No worries Ariy. Glad to be of assistance. You're right though, it is an extremely boring process mixing down individual instruments to wave files. Is there any reason other than processing power that you can't just leave them as instruments till the final mixdown?

I have to say, Me$$iah's absolutely right. It's great to be able to sit back and tune your brain down to finishing and checking mode, rather than analysing and fixing mode. There's definitely something to be said for reel-to-reel tape machines and having to wait for them to rewind. It might be annoying to wait, but it allows you to clear your brain and re-focus, plan ahead and just generally look after your 'frame-of-mind'. Working in digital is very fatiguing because it doesn't give you that space.

Anyway, I'm rambling.

Cheers all,

AudioDan

Hi Aryi,

I'm using SX2 and for audio export is, by far, better than v1.xx, as said above. I can't remember well but I'm almost sure even with v1.02 it's possible to record several vsti and/or audio channels in one go (not only as a final mixdown).
Well... in the mean time I've posted this topic
