Thanks, Stardust. We are living in a consumption age. It's stimulated by ads and, if they produce it, there is a market for it...

not a good example at all

this is not a 'standard' case, it got firewire and usb-2 hub functionality and a fairly 'strange' shape.
obviously it contains some massive alloy parts for heat dissipation.
there's an extra expense of course, but it if you have to look at it constantly (because it's on your work desk), it may be worth it.
at least there are way absurder examples of overpriced goods, from simple things like mass fabricated shoes to exotic ones like (audio) monitors. What's inside a $500 box often isn't even worth $80
cheers, Tom

definetly not, as I will not buy the Mini
I was close to buy a G5 iMac with integrated TFT, as it's more compact and has WLan included - I could even take it downstairs and do my work in the garden (power outlet available)
but then I got adventurous and took the challenge to install OSX on the old PM7600 with a G4 accelerator...
I succeeded with version 10.2 but then the automatic software update to 10.2.8 crashed the machine. In my incredible wisdom I just picked the proper radio button for some 'additional-firmware-I-dunnowhat' option, rebooted and...
NOTHING
the machine isn't adressable at all anymore - makes the 'hardware ok' startup sound and not even a video signal shows up

extremely funky...
cheers, Tom

I wonder how big the stack will become...probably the size of a normal mini-tower

No - one couldn't stand the view.
A PM-7600 is among the most ugly plastic creations of all times

Besides, there are too many holes in it
