What do Canadians do in a day like this?
Mostly nothing. Enjoy staying at home and wait for the 4th of July to watch the parades and the fireworks on TV.
Like any normal Canadian I started my day by stopping by Tim Hortons for an Xtra large with couple of donuts.
HAPPY CANADA DAY

The establishment of the constitution ? How dull (but important). No wonder it's donut day.

Actually, July 1 is the (supposed) date of Canada's confederation. July 1, 1867.
Our birthday (and marcuspocus').

..although its shitty when two holidays overlap.
You always feel like life screwed you for one occassion of leisure.
Canada day is not like Christmas, far from it.
If you know anything about canadian politics, you know that Marcus would not even think it's Canada day because he is a Quebecer, as I am. Canada day is a day for rampant propaganda for canadian unity and most canadians know this is more and more impossible because of the obvious language and cultural differences. If we were in a small country like Switzerland (where they speak 4 languages) that would not be an issue. But Canada is the biggest country in the world(since the USSR disbanded) and the western provinces cannot begin to understand the eastern french and vice versa.
Canada day is a day when Quebecers remember the political manipulations the federal government has come up with to stop us from separating and getting our own nation with our own cultural identity and its concerns.

Canada is still the 2nd largest country in the world after Russia.
However, if you are counting Land Only
1. Russia 16,995,800 sq km
2. Antarctica 14 million sq km (280,000 sq km ice-free, 13.72 million sq km ice-covered) (est.)
3. China 9,326,410 sq km
4. United States 9,158,960 sq km
5. Canada 9,093,507 sq km

President? We don't have such a thing. Sorry.
The highest post he can hold is the post of the Prime Minister.

uhh ohh
its getting interesting now....Go ahead...
When I was over there in Ottawa everithing was in 2 languages...
The flight attendand from montreal to Ottawa called Candice spoke english and french, but in fact only joked with french spoken guys.
The people in Ottawa explained that 'beyond the river' there is.. Quebec.
So there is a difference
We went to the Ottawa tulip festival this year and NEVER did anyone speak to us in french, except our horse-drawn carriage driver but he was from Quebec(the horse's name is Catastrophe which I found quite poetic in view of what I wrote higher up)
I did however get to practice turkish with a really nice lady at the turkish tent.

Yeah but antar, if you count only water, we are much bigger than Russia
Even if you counted water land and SKY. Russia stays #1 in term of Size after the break up of the USSR
Canada #2 no matter what you counted.
Russia ( includes Siberia) is whatwhat makes it the biggest in the world.
Hey there is nothing Wrong being #2
If it makes you feel better the USA is #3

Once there was a plan to make it #1 by adding Canada to the mix.

Actually, you are wrong. If you count *only* water, here's how it breaks down:
1. Canada: water: 891,163 sq km
2. USA: water: 469,495 sq km
3. India: water: 314,400 sq km
4. China: water: 270,550 sq km
x. Russia: water: 79,400 sq km
(Numbers from the CIA world factbook.)
Russia isn't even in the Top 5!
