A new step has been taken in the probably very looong, slow and tough fair against fair working conditions for Asian workers. Nike has admitted, that physical violence has been used in factories manufacturing Nike products. 1/4 of the places used physical violence, ½ of the places had rules for when it is alowed to go to the bathroom, ½ of the places had working hours of at least 60 hours a week, 1/10th of the places punnished workers who did not want to work extra.

I guess many people have an interest in better conditions for Asian workers. The workers themselves could benefit from better conditions. And European/American workers might loose less jobs to Asia, because Asian manufacturing may become more expensive. (jep some Asian people will not get those jobs then - where there is bright sides, there are shadows too.

Not to mention children labour. Although, it's not an easy question.
I heard an interview with ex "ethical leader" of Nokia. She used to go round their subcontractors (mostly in Asia) and check that decent working conditions apply. And that children aren't used.
But. Is it better for the child to live starving in the streets, without parents, using drugs than work for some company and live, somewhat, human worthy life?
Or, is it better to live in a house, with sick parents, without any money.

Tough questions.

We have the choice of not buying something and make it political and spread all over.
When it has been done in the past it sorted some good effect, but there is need for a constant attention and spreading of information to make it politically effective.
