Interesting interview with the founder of Magnatune Records about the music industry and internet music. His company sells downloads and hard copies. Buyers name their price between $5.00 and $18.00. The average buyer pays $7.20 for a download only. A real CD costs $5.00 extra (or more if you wish). His artists earn 50% of the sales and from commercial use of the music. Licensing is a growing part of the business, but the top artists only earn $10,000 a year, yet the company is new.
