Hi,

Does anybody know if it's possible to just swap the two whips? I mean I've got PulsarI (classic) and PulsarII (Plus) and would like to just attach the classic whip to the Plus card and viceversa. Will there be spdif available and unbalanced ins'outs on the Pulsar II (Plus) with the whip taken from PulsarI classc? Will it work? I don't want to experiment with it, you know

That would not work really as the Plus version has an extra chips for the AES/EBU.
the chip is labeled 1601 .B0332

this chip is the only obvious thing I can see between the Classic plate and Plus Plate.

hope this clear things for you.

I wouldn't expect any danger from the connections as there's no current transmitted (phantom power or supply power).
But if you want to play it safe build a self tester:
A 15 pin female connector to get better access to the pins of the whip and a multimeter to measure resistance (zero=connected).
Check what's on the respective pins of each whip.
It's definetely an annoying task - I'd just plug the 'wrong' whip in and see if it works, but that's just me...

there are components to make the plate send and receive a balance signal.

there is no reason for CWA to build 2 different plates if changing the whip on the card really does the trick. This would have been easy for them in manufacturing.

I know this from the old tripleDAT board.
when upgrading it from Classic to Plus. CWA send me instructions with 2 small chips to mount on the card one was labeled AES 1601 (this one is missing from the Scope classic Plate) and the other one was 75179 (I beleive this one is built on the classic plate)

Also I had to switch a jumper from Coax to AES.

So the idea to simply switch a cable whip to get a balanced signal won't do the job

What " may " work in my openion is to actually buy the 1601 AES chip and solder it on the plus plate then build the XLR cable. I am not sure if there are other components for the plus plate besides the obvious

Uh! Too much for my simple brain  Thanks guys for the explanation. Actually my need is to have the classic whip attached to the Plus board  But since nothing is going out of my pulsars (analog) I use my Luna's analogue outs to monitor the signal. Soon I'm going to have a pair of active monitors featuring ballanced ins so there's no real prob:)

I was explicity told by Shawn at Infinite Vortex that the cables are DEFINITELY NOT interchangeable.

I know you mention just swapping the cable looms between the boards but.....

I moved a pulsar 2 "classic" I/O board to a scope SRB no problems if that is any help...

so now i have a scope "classic" and a pulsar srb

yeah, as written in the original CWA documentation...
