I notice that Chris (Werner) has responded to our collaborative "Pluto" track passing the 1000 hits mark, and I second his gratitude, but this has made me think:
It passed the 500 mark on 21/10/03 and so in just over a year has doubled the number of hits.
So, who else looks into the music forums besides the members?
Have we had more than 500 new members in the last year, and if so have they all looked at the track?
Bear in mind that this applies to everyone's uploaded tracks.
Are we being sampled by non-members?
Are we being "trawled" by others?
Now it is obvious that every new member doesn't download every track, or even read about them - blimey there's nearly 1300 tracks in the forum.
I accept that perhaps a new user may click on the "views" tab to order the tyracks by the number of hits. This would mean they could view the ones with the most hits first (perhaps significant)
Similarly they could click on the "Replies" tab to have the tracks with the most replies at the top of the stack or by date (default) or by name etc etc etc.
So it must be that many non-members must be downloading our music........
Up for discussion - what is your take on this???
EDIT: Tip - click on the ">View" text and you'll see that Makets "Her Call Electra" has the most hits .......... nearly 11000 !!!! Very interesting.

Hey Neil, i think that may be views, not downloads.
Your travels through our system with Chris are always good to hear and read about, as we were all wondering what is out there
I suppose it's more than just a music thread in that way, which is why everyone has a look
Lovely to have you back around, btw
p.s. - do the Huygens pictures of Titan correlate with your readings?

Hi Wayne
I appreciate that they're views and not "confirmed" downloads, but it still seems like a lot of hits on many of the tracks. I just find it interesting really.
I know that many members will follow up a thread - for instance if they've replied to a track and then someone else does the same, it is only natural to see what the last person wrote. But if you take "Pluto" as an example, there have been no posts to it for 12 months and it is probably pages down the "chart", but there have been 500 more hits with nothing new to read. Strange!?!?!?
Thanks for the welcome back BTW.
Haven't had a look at any Titan pictures yet - I'm preparing for the shock of what I looked like before I evolved

Yes, I had the same thought, where all those hits come from. I think many guest have a look for downloadable mp3s. But that´s the risk if we post songs in such a forum like Z, you public your music and it is accessable around the world, you never know where your music is played or listen from.
Imagine we would have over 800 replies, Neil.

It's not a risk to me Chris because it's just one of my hobbies, but I get your drift.
I'll have a look at the links sometime too

might also be people coming in from search engines, looking for information on the planet Pluto, or the Disney dog

Google can give a lot of hits, when some 'popular' keywords are used in the topic. These returns won't result in downloads, just hits.
Planetz can host our songs - not only for the other z members, but also a larger fanbase can access it. No need to login or identify, no annoying cookies or banners...

electra is just a cool word - I'd certainly click it while browsing

the similiarly named record label has extremely groovy releases and it was the name of my first radio. Which turned out to become my first synth with self 'constructed' feedback loop between the 2nd speaker out and tape in.
Some of the vishnu tracks in the music forum sound stunningly similiar - what a nice flash-back
@Chris and Neil: I immediately thought of your project when I found those audio links from the distant moon

not exactly audiophile on it's on own, but then it's authentic (!) - strange memories from the Alien movie appeared...
really good to have you both back, Chris from eastern Asia and Neil from his personal trouble - I always enjoyed your coop releases.
I'm not exactly into the usual spacey electronic stuff (most is just to cheezy imho), but your tracks somehow manage to get a certain atmosphere over. Dunno why, but it works - so keep it up
cheers, Tom

by next to nothing
i have not dug into it too much, but bear in mind that it has 44 replies. now, lets say 30 ppl have commented on this track (i dont know, but as an example).
now, if these 30 people have been following the thread (this is really hypothetical) all the way, you would have something like 1200 hits.
it sounds like huge numbers, but my point is that it isnt INDIVIDUAL hits, so if you checked each reply, thats 44 views. if you click the thread, then reply, then view your post, thats 2 views.
best regards,
piddi

It'd be pretty straightforward to check it out in the site logs...

I never thought about google/search engines etc. I must be cracking up.
I think though it is encouraging to think that non-members are possibly downloading our tracks and listening to them.

At the moment the sun is hitting us immense.
There are many eruptions, in spite of the fact that she is in its eruptions minimum.
