I've just about to get my new Scope Pro board in a week's time. My Audiophile 2496 is going on Ebay and I can't wait for it. My partner says I am muttering 'Computer graphical interface' 'Modular' and such weird stuff while i'm asleep - she is getting sick of it

Any suggestions for my first plug-in. My friend has suggested:-

1) Adern Flexor
2) John Bowen's Solaris
3) SPL Transient Designer

What would you go for??

How do you like to make music? There is a wide "scope" of plugs, and it depends on whether you are, say, a record/mix person or a synth/sequence or whatever person.

My most used plugs are Optimaster and PsyQ, but I adore the sound of my Minimax. Best synth ever!
I did buy flexor, but haven't used it to its full potential - must be a lack of time, not being able to go all the way into modular programming. But that will absoluteley change.
So, from your list: Flexor, but you'll want the Minimax and the optimaster as well.
Anyone: does the 'shop-bug' still exist?

I used the shop bug about 3-4 weeks ago. Not sure if its still "working".

I am into the synths side of scope - I was thinking of Flexor first then maybe Solaris but I will only get one first for a few months as there is so much to learn

Solaris as a starter would be a good choice - covers widest spectrum out of the box and has a familiar interface.

Solaris is compatible with Flexor modules so you can integrate that later.
Since regular Flexor starts in the Modular environment that's a steeper curve, but for the price you just cannot leave it out It definetely adds it's VERY OWN flavour to the sound spectrum.

You can learn Modular3 for a while
before you decide to buy flexor.
And also use the included synths before you
make up your mind; what is missing.

Yeah, you just bought a big box of goodies! I wouldn't be in such a hurry to add to your learning curve. Explore what you have already, then decide. I feel the that the synth stuff is pretty well represented, but that is so subjective...have fun!

if you use a lot of rythm SPL Transient Designer can help a lot it makes mixes sound more airy

If you're into the synths side and search for a starter, it's indeed a tie between Flexor and Solaris for value for money !

Both will give more huge paybacks if you're a tweaker of course.

Both are a no brainer, be aware of some annoying bugs in the modular though ( see modular talk forum ) that strike at times ...so sometimes it's a love and hate relationship if you don' take precautions

Solaris is the big Swiss Army knife synth ( and very soon it will become larger !! ) and if you purchase the Red Dwarf modules you'll be able to do some crazy experimentations especially with the modular shells like starting with a Flexor oscillator into Solaris and replacing the Solaris filters with a modular FX shell back into Solaris mixers combining this with * massive * modulations possibilities... hmmm ... pure madness !

Also later consider the Wavelength synths pack ( http://www.track0.com/wavelength/devices.html ) for 249 $ you'll get 4 strong character synths that are not for Mickeys and Britneys !

And later ... you'll be back in Spring normally !
