I've just installed a new disk on the DAW to dual boot a new environment for non-music purposes. Is it possible to get a Pulsar II running as a simple soundcard without installing the full Monty?

No - the card has absolutely NO functionality at all without the software.
It's not like an AC97 codec which includes some programs onchip - to do it's nasty things...

cheers, tom

You could run a full install and delete all devices except a basic mixer or so, do not delete the dev used in the project. You can delete the manual, /App/Temp/ folder with M3 stuff etc. This at least will reduce the install size dramatically, if you only want an SFP tray icon or so in that boot partition. Also, you can edit cset.ini that different OS's use the same devices folder on another drive or so. You would have to install the .oxe files if you want to use the dev, if only to copy the .dsp files required, then delete the /sfp/devices/ folder and route it from cset.ini to another drive...

Applicable to mac and pc.

 Strange idea...even in a non music environment, you may want to chill out doing some modular patching or record something streaming from the web or just listening to mp3's with a bit of processing....with today's HD's a Scope folder shouldn't be an issue.

why get a card like scope if you only want soundblaster functionality?

Yes, I didn't think so. Just thought you guys might have a trick.
atom¦c gets closest.

Why would I want to?
Like I said in my post, it's a new environment for non-music purposes (I'm doing a masters degree in internet applications development). Just as we keep our DAWs scrupulously clean of bloatware so I want to save my cycles on the other side too.

[blasphemy]A soundblaster would be just fine for some music while I work.[/blasphemy]
