ok, i have been dealing with this for like a month now. i bought the thompson course cd for cubase like someone instructed me to do... but i still can't figure this problem out... and i can't make music until i solve this problem.

i want to bring midi into sfp from cubase using the seq. midi source. then to the instrument, then to the mixer. from there i want to send the mixer outs to an asio dest. to bring the audio back into cubase to record to a track. otherwise i am just recording the midi and no audio...

when i open cubase by itself... it works fine. but... when i open sfp then open cubase... it gives the error:

"Samplerate cannot be set. This may be due to sampleclock being set to external sync."

So... why is this happening? I went into sfp and set the samplerate to slave and master... no change. is there something i am missing?

somebody pleeeeeaaase help me. i have been unable to get sfp and cubase to get along since i bought the card. i am not regreting buying it... but it REALLY sucks having a $900 soundcard sitting in my pc doing nothing!

please... before you reply... i am new to all this. so, please try to explain the answer if you know it in the simplest way possible. all i got the last time was answers like... "you should go read some books about producing and studios and routing and then come back." i understand... that is fine and dandy and all... i have even bought quite a few books on cubase, and producing, but those aren't helping me with my problem.

i just wanna get the card working, that's all.

Hi crisis, i think the problem is that you have set different samplerates in Cubase and SFP, you must change either one of them to match the other. Example- if SFP is set to 44.1kHz then in Cubase in project setup you must also set your project for the same samplerate. Or if your Cubase project is set to 48kHz then you must change the SFP samplerate to 48kHz. You can check how your Cubase project is set at the bottom of the main editor in little black area where you will see samplerate, bit depth and available recording time. A hint- it's better to open Cubase after changing SFP settings. Hope I could help you out

mismatched sampler rates will cause this error.
you are changing the sampler rate in cubase first. it should be SFP first.

1. open Scope. select your sampler rate
2. open cubase. choose an empty project
you will see that the sequencer will follow the SFP sample rate.

if you want a differnt sampler rate simply switch back to scope and change the sampler rate and cubase will display a message saying that the Sampe Rate has changed and you hit OK.

If you do it backword you get error.

well... i know about havig to open sfp first. it's really wierd because... when i open sfp first, then gointo cubase, the sample clock is black, or empty. it doesn't say anything. and i can't open it to try to select anything... cause when i click on it it does nothing. the asio is the same. when i try to enable the asio ports so sfp and cubase can comunicate... there is nothing there to select? however when i open just cubase... it shows all the sample clock options... aes/ebu and 4 adat's. and it also show the scope asio ports.

in devices/vst setup/vst multitrack "asio scope" should be selected. what settings are shown?

I'm willing to be when you just open Cubase (no SFP) then XTC mode is running...

Your default SFP project is probably missing the comparable i/o modules.

ok, i kinda figured the problem out... but now i am really confused....... i added an asio source... and now the sample rate sets itself to sync with the cw card in cubase...

but i have no idea what i am doing now... i thought i did... but now i am not so sure... why does there need to be an asio source in order for asio dest. to work? where is the asio source coming from? cubase? and what is it sending? if i am just sending midi into sfp from cubase, and audio from sfp into asio dest... what is the need for an asio source?

and another thing... i know where to activate asio in the device settings in cubase... but how do i use those asio channels i activate? when i try to do a self test to see if everything is working... an it gives me a message saying to connect the asio i/o's... and then it doesn't get any receive signal. how do i set the asio's up in sfp?

do i just send the l/r from the mixer to l/r of asio dest.? cause that's what i did and it's not working. and once i do get it all working... do i have to add a track to cubase for the asio coming in from sfp? like you would with a midi track? how do you record the audio coming into cubase from sfp asio dest. to a track in cubase?
