Hey

I'm gonna buy the A16 Ultra in about a week or so.

Wanted to know if there's any issue placing it ON TOP of my sampler ?

Is there any noise generated by this?

Also it will reside near my 15" monitor - ok also ? or any mangeto-blabla effects that this should not be done?

Hi Lior.

On top of the sampler should be fine.

My personal feeling is that rack gear should be separated from one another to prevent ground loops, but I've never seen any real engineers back up this impression so... Take it or leave it. What I do: place little chunks of wood between rackmount gear, and don't attach 'em to the rails of the rack. Wood doesn't conduct as well as rack metal or chassis metal.

Is your monitor an old-fashioned CRT? Or a post-modern flatscreen LCD?

The former (CRT) will give unbalanced cables a lot of noise.

Generally it's worth keeping all cables away from CRTs (including TVs).

BTW A16 Ultra works great with unbalanced cables. I tried it long before Deejaysly warned me not to short-circuit my gear.

My monitor is a 15" Samsung LCD monitor.

And my gear isn't racked. it just stands on top of a desk. Maybe would be a good idea to divide the sampler from the a16 with a little piece of wood.

the old A16's metal case is completely isolated from the circuitry and not even connected to ground - they probably didn't change this.
Just check how much heat the 'bottom' devices produces.

MY A16 (not ultra) is very heat sensitive and also produces a lot of heat itself, I would suggest you make sure that there is airflow all around it, and that it doesn't sit on top of anything that creates a lot of heat.

And I agree that keeping cables away from a CRT is important.

The new one is said to be much cooler.

Oh yeah, I forgot about heat. The A16U may be cooler than the old model, but it still does get very hot! From that point of view a 1/2" or so separator is a good idea.
