Hi,

I have just finished building a new PC with the following spec, and am experiencing the blue screen MMPOOL error (so far only when I am powering down the computer):

P4 3.2 GHZ Prescott
Intel D875PBZ motherboard
1 gig Corsair Twin X Pro memory
Radeon 9600XT graphics
Maxtor 60 gig IDE HD
Western Digital 120 gig IDE HD
Windows XP Pro

My IRQ assignments are as follows (I disabled two USB controllers in order to have the Creamware cards on individual IRQ's without sharing with anything else. I couldn't, however, get them to share the SAME IRQ):

0 - System timer
1 - PS2 keyboard
6 - Floppy disk controller
8 - System CMOS / real time clock
12 - PS2 mouse
13 - Numeric data processor
14 - Primary IDE channel
15 - Secondary IDE channel
5 - Intel SMBUS controller
9 - Powersampler
10 - Pulsar II
11 - USB host controller
11 - USB host controller
11 - Radeon 9600 Series

The PC is running in Standard mode with all usual XP tweaks carried out. I tried running the Driver Verifier program to try to identify the problem causing the MMPOOL error, as suggested in an earlier thread. When the computer restarted it didn't make it to Windows but instead displayed a blue screen with the following message:

IO SYSTEM VERIFICATION ERROR in alcacr.sys (WDM DRIVER ERROR 20E) [alcacr.sys+46c at F7B2146C]

Does anyone have any idea what this means, and how to get around it??

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing both Creamware cards but it has not fixed the problem.

Can anyone suggest a solution?

from the error message displayed in your post, it does not look like a scope error. this may be a USB driver/device error.

Also make sure that you update the driver for the AGP card

Yes I have updated to the latest ATI Radeon graphics card drivers. I have ran the Driver Verifier program that is found in Windows / System 32 directory and upon reboot of the machine I get a blue screen with the following message:

IO SYSTEM VERIFICATION ERROR in alcacr.sys (WDM DRIVER ERROR 20E) [alcacr.sys+46c at F7B2146C]

I have looked up the alcacr.sys driver and it is the one for my Speedtouch USB ADSL modem. Soooo.... I uninstalled the modem, removed the plug from the back of the computer and rebooted the machine. However, when I close the PC down I am still confronted with the blue screen MMPOOL error.

It's very strange, but I know there must be a solution!!

You have to run the driver verifier again and disable the driver that you want to verifiy.
And your video card is sharing an IRQ with the USB controller, which is not good too.

I can't actually get Windows to start after I have ran the Driver Verifier program and rebooted - it doesn't make it that far, it just goes to the blue screen with the IO SYSTEM VERIFICATION ERROR.

Also, have you any idea how to re-assign the IRQ of the USB controllers? I have plenty of other IRQ's which are free, but for some reason they keep getting assigned to the same IRQ as the graphics card.

Do you mean disable the USB modem in device manager BEFORE I run the Driver Verifier program?

No.

Two options:
1. Press F8 at boot time and select Last Known Good Configuration
2. Press F8 and choose Safe Mode and see if you can start.

Yes I have previously restarted using the Last Known Good Configuration option. However it hasn't solved the problem and I still haven't been able to run the Driver Verifier program.

It's weird, I thought it must have been down to the USB Speedtouch modem driver, but even after I uninstalled the modem and unplugged it I still got the MMPOOL blue screen message when powering down.

I'm thinking about borrowing a non-USB ADSL router from a friend, which plugs into the network port on the motherboard.

Even then I would still be using USB for my MIDI keyboard, and like you said the USB controllers are sharing IRQ 11 with the video card. Are you aware of any way you can re-assign either the USB controllers or the video card to different IRQ's?

I have already looked at the devices in Device Manager Properties page, under the Resources tab, but the automatic setting tickbox is greyed out for the USB controllers and the video card - meaning I can't use this method to manually change the IRQ's. In my BIOS, I can only reassign PCI slots to different IRQ's - there is no option to reassign the video card or USB controllers.

Please be more specific. What happened? The driver verifier is in your system32 folder.

Sorry - from the beginning:

I can open the Driver Verifier program in Windows, I then choose the option to "create standard settings". I then choose "automatically select unsigned drivers" option. It shows a list of drivers. I select Finish and then choose to restart the computer when prompted. When the computer restarts it doesn't make it to Windows but shows the blue screen with the IO SYSTEM VERIFICATION error I mentioned earlier.

At that point I restart the PC using Last Known Good Configuration. Windows then loads up but the Driver Verifier utility does not come up and nothing has been fixed.

Regarding allocating IRQ resources, you should check your BIOS manual.

Also you can get your powersampler and pulsar2 to share the same irq 10. They don't need to be on seperate IRQ's. Look for an option in the bios settings that allows you to force irq's onto individual pci slots. That way you could force irq 10 onto the slots that your pulsar cards are using.

Thanks for the reply Bassdude. I have tried to force the IRQ settings in the BIOS for the PCI slots, but even after I have assigned them Windows does not allocate them the way I have selected.

That might be because the Plug and Play OS option in the BIOS is set to Yes. Set it to No and then windows should set it as per what's in the bios.
I'm assuming that you are running your system in standard pc mode BTW.

i did some tweaks to my working system (3CW cards, asus p4b533) and i got this blue screen error when i shutted down my PC.
note that, if i closed SFP before shutting down, the error did not appear.

i solved by:

removing this line from cset.ini
[HW]
numboards=3

forcing from the bios the IRQ of my CW cards to 9. (plug n play=NO, then assign the appropriate IRQ)
