Ok, i got the hang of this alot beter than i had... i did some experimenting. Once i got around the xlr problem... things became much easier. I ended up finding an eq that has xlr and 1/4 inch in n outs. Is this ok till i buy a mixer? It can't damage anything right?

Well, on to my main point... In cubase... you can use the same midi controller for different instruments, or even the same instryments just different sounds. Like i can setup 4 midi channels for kick, hat, snare, and crash. So, my question is... If i run midi from cubase into SFP... is there some way to break that one midi signal up in SFP into different midi channels, to control different instruments at different times just like i do in cubase? Or am i better off just buying a midi cable and feeding it straight into SFP then into cubase?

I guess what i am trying to get at, is, is there some kind of control that will regulate midi inputs and outputs? I am looking at this Midi merger 16... and it has 16 in but one out? i need it reversed. Like something that recieves 1 midi signal... and sends out 16 midi signals. I just don't know ow to regulate midi signals in SFP cause the mixer only has 1 midi in and 1 midi out?

Any single output in SFP can be multed to as many inputs as you like!

the eq is ok.
all midi info is in bundles of 16 channels. you can set you scope devices to a midi channel, no problem(om the live bar). you can also enable more than one port out of your sequencer and into scope. each port can carry 16 channels.

ok, i think i understand your response... i just don't know how to do it... i am going to read the manual... and see if i can figure it out a little more... so i can phrase my next question to be more answerable.

oh... and what's with the tutorial files in SFP? is there any documentation to go with those? or are they just presets?

with drum sounds it's also a very common setup to have them on one channel, but each instrument at a different note.
The EDS8i device and the Modular drum modules do it this way.

the mixer's (and other devices) midi input is pretty obvious, but the output serves 2 purposes: it acts as an internal 'through' and also adds controller data to the midi stream, in case you have assigned a midi continuous controller to a screen control.

If you right click on an 'automatable' screen control (a mixer fader or a synth knob), you can assign the midi cc#.
If you move the item with the mouse then it sends these controller value changes, which can be recorded in the sequencer.
In this context a merger module with many ins may be required to 'collect' the output and route it to the sequencer midi destination module.
