Hi people.
Just got a new computer for AUDIO.

specs:

INTEL P4 3GHZ
ASUS P4800DELUXE
S-ATA WD 120 GB Harddrive
Scope Home (3DSP Card)
Gefore 5200 128mb AGP

i've done almost ALL optimizations i could find on the net.

computer is running in Standard PC mode.
still from time to time i get the IRQL_EQUAL messages and the machine reboots itself.

some things i've notices so far that i think worth checking, seeking your advice:

1. when switching to Standard PC mode, i get under the "COMPUTER" in Device manager actually 2 Standard PC... it happens every time when i install in this mode, why is this? should i delete one of them? which one?

2. the SCOPE card and some other things are sharing the same IRQ (11). how exactly can i prevent this from happening?

3. i disabled Hyperthreading the the BIOS, and also set LATENCY TIMER to 32. is this wrong? what should i set these two?

any word of advice will be appreciated.

hoping to get a stable system running soon.

Wow, IRQ 11 I think is the worst IRQ that can be shared, it is shared with the video card if I'm not mistaken.

1. Reboot in Safe Mode and remove one of the "Computers"

2. Move the Scope card to other PCI slot. Look in your mobo User's Manual which PCI slots are shared with which. Use the one that's less shared or shared with a device that you don't use often.

3. Disable auto reboot option in System Properties->Advanced->Startup And Recovery

could this possibly be caused by overheating of CPU?

i checked the Hardware monitor in the BIOS, not in the red zone but still fairly high (45-47 degrees)

that's not high temperature !

i have multiacpi, ht enabled,
4 pci cards (3 cw cards + network card) and agp card, 24irq's, and nothing is sharing,
and i also remember running in standard mode or just ACPI nothing was shared with all cards, check wich cards have shared slots...

The trick with ACPI is that Windows vectors out the real IRQs and all you see is non-sharing bliss. Looking at the BIOS boot screen will show you a better picture.

i switched the pci slot
now the SCOPE CARD is on PCI 3, and is using IRQ 10 (the GEFORCE is using IRQ 11).

still it's sharing IRQ with some system device (SIS-to-something)

How can i make it use an irq by itself?

turn off irq steering by going to the device manager -> computer -> standard pc, right click, choose properties. the second tab should be "irq steering", turn it off. you should now be able to specify which IRQ to assign to each pci slot in the BIOS and/or device manager.

BIOS only offers me to Reserve IRQ or not, not really sure what this means exactly.

When the IRQ is reserved then which device can use it exactly?

Also will try to turn off IRQ Steering..
see what happens next .

Reserve IRQ 5 for PCI 3. Or disable COM2 and reserve IRQ 3 if you use IRQ 5 for the onboard sound.

I do not use the Onboard sound, and there's no option for me in the bios to reserve an irq for a pci slot.

There's only a list of IRQ's (1 through 9) and i can selecet whether it's reserved or not...

Then try it with 5. Then for PCI 3 the board will reserve IRQ 5. And XP finds in Slot 3 under IRQ 5 your Scope card.
