I know this is a trivial subject around here and I havn't got much to add, but I've been working with vst-synths all day and just an hour ago I added a creamware synth instead of one of the vst-synths...... bliss! It simply sounded more present than any of the other synths - Yup, I definitely felt more comfortable coming home again!

Yep, that's why I keep coming back. VSTi devices are way more efficient for me to integrate in the workflow, but the CWA devices just sound better....

Really? Do you work in XTC mode a lot?
I try to keep Cubase strictly as a 'metronome' telling SFP when to play stuff.
About the only exception to that rule is using Battery as there's not much in the way of a good drum module for SFP besides the STS samplers, and I try to avoid them for that purpose (drums) as far as I possibly can - (sample layer limitations being just one reason).
Another reason for me to start using (some) VSTs is if I'm getting perilously close to running out of DSP oomph (12-DSP system - 2x PIIs), but there're other ways around that problem.
Apart from that, I try to keep all sound sources & mixing & effects strictly in the SFP-realm - I find that to be the easiest work-flow for me.
but the CWA devices just sound better....
Can't argue with that!

They certainly do sound better! I agree with Royston also about doing as much in SFP as possible. The VSTi in some way don't hit the mark, and are somewhat parodies of themselves. I tend to use them just for incidental soundFX type stuff, i.e. through Rupsta or similar.
Haven't tried battery......Hmmmm

I find it very good apart from the fact that it has no filters. (I believe that Kontact, for example, provides these?)

I agree that SFP stuff has a high quality sound, but I dont totally discount VSTi:s. VSTs have a somewhat variable quality depending on who made them. Some are mediocre but some are really amazing. Take the Korg Legacy Collection for example. Wow! Native intruments also provide high quality VSTs that can astound you. Battery is really very easy to use and extremely useful. The extra sampled drumkits (synthetic drums and Studio kits) sound awesome.

That is the point!
Scope-stuff cannot be crap because the most atoms (algorithms) are made by creamware.

I have lots of VSTi's and lots of CWs and ... I don't mix them : there's whisky OR beer !
Well, I think the gap is thinner, however VAs Creamware anytime and I also try as many time as possible to be " all CW "
I have a dream : next gen boards that could harbour Z3ta+, Rhino, Sytrus, Absynth like app !!!
Patience should help !
Try Vaz Modular, you should normally be surprised because of low CPU use and very top of the VSTi's sound ( IMO ) and a sound of its own also !

I think you can combine various atoms to make a new algorythm ?
definition of algoritm

sorry, but i had to react
and those new algos can sound bad, the atoms are capable of that too.

you are right somehow, but a lot of developers are using filters, oscillators and envelopes e.g. "as they are".
i know that flextor uses only low level math atoms to generate new algorithms...
